1) connect a video cable to an external display and use keys to switch to external.
2) If the display is visible on external but not on laptop shine a flashlight into the display from the front. If you see dim data but it is not back lit: it is the inverter or the ccl (backlight). If that is the case and yopu have a scope check signals and replace the defective part.
If no equipment change the inverter first, it is cheap and easy to replace.
If it is the backlight tradeoff a repacement used screen versus buying a ccl (not to expensive) but changing the ccl not very easy.
If there is no display externally and you do not see any data with a flashlight - then remove memory reboot and check post codes.

Its having problem posting. You might need to have a replacement of the motherboard and power supply. you can contact IBM if system still within warranty
