Hi thanks for asking, routers - modems do not usually combine because one can provide internet access to several computers in the same location. But if they in different locations only computers in that location can access the router.

Can we use one router and one modem in combination at the three locations in lieu of using the combined unit? This would allow us to use the same combination at the three locations.

Yes you can use one router and one modem in each location

    you can follow these steps:

PICK A ROUTER - There are tons of wireless routers to choose from. Depending on how big your house or office you might have to purchase multiple routers. The current standard in wireless technology is known as Wireless G. It is rated at a maximum speed of 54Mbps with a radius range of approximately 75'. This is most suitable for small homes or offices. Other types include Wireless A, B, and N and all vary in bandwidth and range. Do some more research and find out what might be suitable for your needs.

Step 2PICK A WIRELESS NETWORK CARD - If you set up a wireless network make sure to get wireless networking cards for each desktop, otherwise there'll be no way for you to connect to the internet. Most laptops have wireless networking cards built in, check your laptops manual to make sure.

Step 3PLUG IN THE ROUTER - Once you pick out a wireless router that suits your needs plug in the power supply and connect it to your primary computer. If you already have a wired router go ahead and unplug it and throw it aside. Reconnect all the cables from the modem to your wireless router until you see green blinking lights on both the modem and router. This signals that the wireless router is picking up and internet signal.

SET UP THE ROUTER - Turn on the computer directly connected to the wireless router. Most routers come with software disks that include drivers needed for them to work. Go ahead and install the required software and restart your computer. Once restarted open up your internet browser and typehttp://192.168.1.1 into the address bar. A window will pop up asking for a username and password. You do not need to enter a username, just enter admin as the password. This may not work for some wireless routers, check your manual for further instructions. Give your router a unique name and set up wireless security right away. You don't want people using your bandwidth. Select WPA2Personal for security mode and create a password. Share this password only with others you want to grant internet access to.

Step 5Save your settings, turn of your computer. Disconnect any Ethernet cables connected to your computer and congratulations you've just set up your wireless network! Now you can access the internet from anywhere in your house or office!

Can i hook up 2 computers to the rca dcm425 without a wireless router

RCA DCM425 digital cable modems only have one Ethernet cable located in the back of the device. In order to have two computers connected at the same time you will need to have router. The router will connect to the Ethernet port on the back of the RCA modem and then you can have up to 4 computers connected directly to the router using Ethernet cables. If any of your computers are wifi compatible they will also be able to get online by using the wifi from the router.

We use our computers at three different locations but not at the same time. We would like to use the same router and modem at all three locations. We are serviced by Comcast at each location, 2 in IN &...

Short answer....NO
To my knowledge, your modem needs to be set up at one location, you would need to install it and change the settings everytime you moved it.
The router could just be taken from site to site.
You need to have an internet account set up at each location, paying a seperate bill for each one, and therefor you would have a modem, provided by the ISP at each location.

IF you have a local WIFI hotspot ( unsecure network from the likes of McDonnalds (cloud network) ) you may be able to use a wifi network adapter to get on the internet

All lights are solid, no internet connection

Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

How do i connect my router to my modem

Your modem should have four or three sockets at the back, 1 for the power, 1 for the phone line, 1 for the network cable and 1 for usb but not all the time. You will need a CAT5 network cable, plug it into the network socket on the modem, this socket will have a sign on it like three computers, then plug the other end of the network cable to port 1 on the back of the router.
Phone your isp for the settings you need on the router and you should be good to go.

The network is working but I can't get the internet

If the internet is not working first thing to check here is the internet connection from your modem without the router, make sure that your computer can access the internet when computer is connected directly to modem, if no internet without the router you need to contact your ISP for that, but if there's internet without the router you need to reset and reconfigure the router.....if you have the setup CD of the router just run that to reconfigure it back.........
