Start the laptop going as far as it can and press the F8 button as it is starting. This will give you a few startup options. Select Safe Mode. If it's a problem with drivers it might start in safe mode. If it does press the Start Button, Accessories, System Tools and System Restore. You will be given a date to which the system will restore to but you have the option to pick another date. Select a date in bold when the laptop was working and run the program.
If this does not solve the problem you could use a windows installation cd. You didn't say which version of windows you use but you may have an installation disc or be able to get a loan of one.
Failing that there's a program called Spinrite available from http://www.grc.com which can repair most windows computers of any version, has got great reviews and allows you to create a boot disc to repair problem discs. I hope some of these help.

Acer aspire PC model M3470G with error msg:can't find reboot disk or it is damaged

check bios at boot for any 'hard disk detection' options to see if the drive is actually getting power and being recognized by the system. If it is, it may likely be the boot record, which will require a reload or restore.

Unable to enter setup in acer aspire 5315

You do not say what OS you are running. You could try F12 at bootup to see if you can get to the boot manager that way.

Have an Acer 5315. Used the system's restore

Disconnect any external devices, plug in your power to a A/C outlet, re-install the restoration disk and start over.
Check your BIOS again to make sure the CD is the first boot drive. You may not be saving the BIOS change or the restore disk may not be bootable.
You can check the restore disk on any PC or laptop.
Also you may have a restoration partation on the hard disk. Get you docs. and check.
