Problem with Widows Vista and Internet Connection

There seems to be a lot of people with the same Issue. Windows Vista keeps changing from Acess: Local and Internet to Acess: Local only. is there a way to keep it Local and Internet? Also it seems that my connection has slowed down considerably. I used to be able to play streaming video off of You Tube now it starts and stops contantly. I changed from an Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection card to a Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter Model WUSB54GC. When I hooked up the Linksys USB Model it was again fast and worked flawlessly for a day now it is back to the Start and Stop instead of the smooth streaming can anyone tell me why and how to fix this issue. thanks in advance

Hi,
In this case you have to get your router reset to default settings and then set it up once again and also setting upa new wireless network with a different channel because the issue you're facing is because of channel selection.

There can be several reasons why you are not able to connect to Internet. To troubleshoot the issue, you can refer to the instructions mentioned on the link below:

How to determine your computer's MAC address

Applies to Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7

1. Click Start - Run

2. Next enter "CMD" and click OK

3. Next at the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" and press enter

At this point all your active connections will list on the screen. Note you may need to scroll back up the window to get to the MAC address info you need. Also keep in mine if you are connected to your wired or wireless connection because both will have a MAC address assigned to them and they will be different.

4. Look under the Local Area Connection if connected to your network via a wired connection or Wireless Network Connection if connecting via a wreless connection.

Once under the right connection you will want to look for the line that shows "Physical Address" this will have what the network cards MAC Address listed.

Note if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 and you access a lot of different networks then you may have a lot of Tunnel Adapters list that causes overflow in the CMD buffer. If this happens the top part of the "ipconfig /all" report will get cut off. To fix this all you need to is turn off IPV6 in your network properties and reboot your computer. This will remove the ones that are tied to IPV6. After you reboot you should be able to see MAC address for your netork devices. After you get the MAC address it is recommended that you turn IPV6 back on because there is some programs that have been writen for IPV6 for when it becomes a standard.

How to turn off IPV6 in Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Here is an example of what "ipconfig /all" looks like on a computer running Windows 7

Lost internet,

Are you on vista? This sounds a lot like a problem I had on windows vista. Instead of trying to fix windows vista, how about you uninstall it, throw it away, then buy either windows xp or windows 7 and be much happier.

Can't connect 64 bit vista computer to wireless internet

Yes there is a problem with the 2wire's wireless with 64bit vista. I had a problem with my MAC and my Windows VISTA 64 BIT Laptop not being able to keep a stable connection with the default wireless username and password.
To get into the 2wire: Open a Internet window Address Bar 192.168.1.254 Home network "At the top of the page" then click on wireless settings "Also at the top of the page" Then you are in the wireless config to change the information.
What i had to do is change the wireless authentication to WPA-PSK and change the wireless password (Use a 10 digit Number as the pass-code, a phone # would be a good suggestion) , what you also need to do is change the name of the network along with the channel of the wireless, it helps if you take it all the way up to 11. Then you should be smooth sailing all the way. :-)
