Denon AVR-3300 Problem

By herself - usenet poster

I recently purchased a Denon AVR-3300 from a friend and cannot get the
digital inputs to work.  On the receiver I have set up the dvd input to
optical or coaxial depending on which im trying.  Also on the dvd player I
have set up the output correctly.  The three options that can be set on the
DVD player are Dolby Digital/PCM, Stream/PCM, or PCM only.  The only time
any sound comes out is when the DVD player is in PCM only but it only shows
up as Pro Logic DVD.  I have tried different digital coaxial cables and
optical cables on two different DVD players and neither would work.  Is
there anything I am missing or are the digital inputs on the receiver
broken?

FYI:
DVD Player: JVC XV-N55SL
Receiver: Denon AVR-3300
Speakers: Wharfedale 8.1 Diamonds with Wharfedale 8.1 Center

Thanks in advance for any help as this problem is really annoying me.

That is what I have been trying.  I am useing the digital out on the DVD
player. I have tried both digital coaxial and optical cables and had them
both set up right on the DVD player and on the Receiver.  The receiver is
set to Auto and Dolby Pro Logic as it is supposed to automaticly switch to
Dolby Digital or DTS based upon the signal.  The only time i can get any
sound to come out is when the DVD player is set to PCM only and the receiver
is either on Auto or PCM.  Additionaly I can not get the test tones to make
any sound either which makes me think there is something wrong with the
receiver.  All other analog inputs work perfectly though.

so, let me get this straight, you only get sound when the DVD player is
set to PCM, which I believe is straight analog audio (doesn't have to
do with the digital outputs. Try this-put a DVD into your machine,
choose Bitstream, use one of the digital outputs, figure out how to
tell (if need be) the reciever that the DVD is going through one of
them, and make sure to set your input mode on the reciever to "Auto" or
"Digital". Hopefully, this'll work. If not......

good luck

You have to go into the setup menu of the denon and specify what items you
want attached to that (either coax or Toslink input. read your manual
