On the Microtek web site, I only see an XP driver. Your friend could try installing a generic TWAIN compliant scanner that is included in the Windows 7 OS or try to install the XP driver using the XP SP3 compatability mode (right click on the file, choose Properties and then the Compatability tab). Those drivers are at http://support.microtek.com/downloads/drv_specific.phtml?slct_os=8&prod=14&bymdlnme=1 .
A different method is available on Win7 Pro or Ultimate. Download and install the XP mode to create a virtual computer running Windows XP. Install the scanner to this "second" computer. Your friend will probably need to save the files to external media to transfer them between the two "computers".

OS : Win XP service Pack 2
If this scanner was previously used on a Win95/8/ME system the likely hood of it working with and NTFS[3000/XP] system is slim.
This is because the two system work in different ways and the scanner design for 95/8 does not recognise commands from a NTFS computer.
Two thing to try
Go to Mt computer/Help/Compatibility and read it up.
then right click on the scanner software and click on properties/compatibility and set it to Win98- see what happens
You could checkout ACER for driver updates also.
But don't hold your breath
The Visioneer 7600 USB scanner is not supported on Windows XP, although it may function properly on most systems. If you choose to install the software on Windows XP, we recommend creating a system checkpoint by using the Windows XP System Restore feature. During installation Microsoft displays a warning dialog because the driver you are installing has not been submitted to Microsoft for testing. Click the Continue button to complete the installation. If you experience any problems with your scanner or operating
system, remove the software and restore to the point created before you installed the driver.
