This is a problem that has been seen in many of HP 74XX series printers.
I have a couple of ideas what you can do to fix this.

  • Unplug the unit, hold down the "OK" and "Cancel" buttons while plugging it back in, then reset the whole unit again. Please note that leave the unit unplugged for about 1 minute.
  • You can also try cleaning the lens and the mirror assembly of the scanner.
  • If the above steps don't work, remove the scanner glass and clean the internal parts, especially the white strip you can see beneath the glass on the right hand side.
  • Also clean the encoder disk on the driver motor may be using a cotton piece and some cleansing agent or simply water.
  • Try cleaning the scanner lamp and mirror with some cotton moistened with sparingly moistened with Windex or so.
  • Keep special care that cotton threads are not left on the parts after cleaning. Then again try resetting the device.
Tell me what happens. I am following up with some more ideas.

Regards.

I put the scanner cable back on and now I get a noise, and have not had a chance to get back to it. I am working it on the side. I have not forgotten about you. What could that be? I did not take the cable off.

    Hello,
I can truely understand that you have got one of the most frustrating problem one can ever get with his/her All-in-one printer.
In order to get rid of that noise what you can do is take that cable completely out of its socket. Blow some air over it so as to clean any dirt and then re-fix it to it's original position.
In almost all cases it has been seen that if this doesn't fix it, the problem lies with the motor.
You can get a replacement motor from HP if your printer is in warranty for free or you can also purchase it. I am providing you one of the sources.

    Purchase motor.

The above is the link from where you can get information for purchasing the motor.

There is also a second plan. I am providing you the link of HP support where you will get the Step-by-step guide how to troubleshoot this problem.

HP manual for troubleshooting this error.

Hopefully this all fixes it for you.

I am eager to here from you what happens. I am following up.

    Have a nice day.

    Regards.

I get a error message on my HP 7410 all in one. "Remove and check cartridge" i have removed them, cleaned them. got me some new cartridges. nothing worked. please help me.

Try :

HP OfficeJet 7410

  1. Perform a partial reset on the printer. To do this first remove the power supply from the back of the printer. With the power off press and hold the # and 3 keys.
  2. Plug the power back into the printer, keep holding the # and 3 keys till you see " Partial Reset " displayed on the printer screen.
  3. If that does not work, do the same but press and hold the # and 6 keys

Re-initialize the HP all-in-one

Force the HP all-in-one to reinitialize by following the steps below:

1. Turn the unit off by pressing the ON button.

2. Disconnect the power cord.

3. Wait five seconds, then reconnect the power cord.

4. but before plugging the unit back in, press and hold the # and 6 keys on the HP all-in-one numeric keypad. Continue to hold these keys down for a few seconds after plugging the unit back in to reset it. Once the all-in-one re-establishes communication with the computer, reset the language and country.

Click on this link or copy and paste the complete link into your browser.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Thanks, Joe

HP OfficeJet 7410 After start up gives a "Scanner error".

You have a problem with your scanner, you should try reinstalling the drivers on your device, and also check on your manual if there is a prerequisite requirement regarding your scanner, in order for it to work properly.

Displays " Scanner Failure"

I've seen a similar issue on other HP All-In-Ones. I had to contact support, but all they do is make sure you try connecting the printer to the wall outlet instead of a surge supressor, then a different wall outlet, then reset to factory defaults. After that didn't work, they submitted an replacement order.

Hope this helps

Hp officejet 7410 all-in-one scanner don't work half the time.

Perform a hard reset on printer and also uninstall completely all software and then reinstall. Try scanner again.

If you have "upgraded" to another OS there is a possibility that the driver being used is not good for the new environment. If applicable, check that out.

If printer is out of warranty HP will do nada but refer you to a forum or suggest you get a new printer - an HP naturally!!!!!!!

Hp oFFICEjET 7410 Hangs on REBOOT

This problem is getting a lot of coverage in various troubleshooting websites. HP really should own up to it and offer some assistance. Anyway, here's a link to one man's description of the fix... with pictures! The hardest part might be finding a Torx screwdriver to take off the back. Good luck!

Scanner Error Power Turn off than on

Hi,

If you are get that error message than unplug the power cord, and than press Poun and Number 6 Keys together on the keypab of the printer. While these keys are pressed and hold, than at the same time plugged in the power cord and dont release the two buttons.
After say 30 second you will get a new message on the screen of the printer.
All of the above steps actually reset the printer. I hope this will work.
