Question about Maytag 30" Self-Cleaning Freestanding Gas Convection Range - Black

Open Question

My oven won't light. The broiler works and I

My Maytag MGR5875QDB oven won't light. The broiler works and I changed out the oven igniter still nothing. Using my volt meter I checked the power at the main four wire connector past the dual valve, I do not have power coming off of the yellow wire from the valve. When I checked the broiler igniter I have power to it, when I checked the oven igniter no power on less I touch to ground. Does that mean the valve system needs to be replaced?

You probably need to replace the the ignitor. Even though it glows red does not mean that it is working propery. If it does not draw at least 3.5 amps the gas valve will not open. This can be check with a amp meter.

SOURCE: Maytag oven doesn't light, broiler comes on instead

On some gas ranges, the broiler comes on with the bake selection during warm up. This allows the oven to preheat much quicker. More than likely, the control pad is functioning properly and your bake igniter is bad. Igniters become weak with age and eventually go bad. Since the bake feature is used more frequently, it typically goes bad more often. The following link provides you with some guidance on oven igniters:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

Remember: just because an igniter glows, does not mean it is good. If they become weak, they will not draw the required current potential to open the gas safety valve.

If you determine the igniter to be bad, you can obtain a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and go to the "Gas Controls" heading and look for item number 14 (part number 74007498). If the igniter plug does not match the plug you have on your oven, the instructions will guide you to cut the wires and splice the ends together. There should be ceramic wire lugs that come with the igniter kit. CAUTION: Make sure you only use the ceramic (heat resistant) lugs that come with the kit. Splicing with regular wire lugs or electrical tape will melt due to the heat. Additionally, make sure you UNPLUG the appliance before replacing the igniter. Live voltage potentials are still present with the range shut off.

I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

You probably need to replace the baking igniter, (Igniter, bake burner
Part Number: AP4102011 made by MAYTAG).

I tested the igniter function by (CAREFULLY) jerryrigging a bridge to wire the BAKE igniter to the BROILER controls.(Push/click plugs accessible by opening up the stove back) Testing thebroiler controls this way the bake element remained cold. I then did the same test but connected the BROILER igniter to the BAKE controls and got a good glow. This indicates that the controls work but the Bake igniter's faulty!

You can access the bake igniter by removal of 2 screws at the front at the platform just inside the top oven. The broil and bake igniters appear to be identical but the push/click plugs are reversed at the back of the stove. (hence the CAREFUL jerry rigged wiring bridge.)The parts and wiring are pretty simple and visual once you get thecovers off. Opening up the stove back is just a matter of removingseveral screws. UNPLUG the stove before you work. If you test as Idescribed, make all connections while UNPLUGGED and then plug it inonly for the brief test. Unplug again while disconnecting/reconnecting.Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Maytag MGR5775QDW won't bake

Find the bake ignitor (you may need to remove bottom drawer or oven cavity floor to get to the ignitor). Turn on the bake. If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. If the ignitor is a round style - amperage should be 2.5-3A, if the ignitor is rectangular - 3 - 3.6A. If less than 2.5A or 3A respectively - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.
Ignitor part numbers for round style ones: 4342528, WB2X9154, SGR403, 5304401265;
rectangular styles: 12400035, WB13K21, WB2X9998, SGR412, NR020, 5303935066, 814269, 9753108.
Ignitors of the same shape (i.e. rectangular) are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires.

Good luck!

This could be two possible problems. The igniter maybe bad, but doubt it. The igniter works both the oven and broiler, I believe on this model. The first thing I suspect is the switch in your wiring harness. The harness has a switch attached to it for each manifold. The switch for your oven maybe out.

It sounds like the igniter. The oven is not getting a spark to turn on, and heat up. We had the same problem, but changed the igniter, and it works fine. Good luck!

Neither the oven nor the broiler burners will light. In both cases, the igniter glows, but no gas to the burner.

UNLESS DOUBLE OVEN THE BROILER BURNER HEATS THE OVEN. AND THERE WOULD ONLY BE ONE IGNITER. WHICH IS PROBABLY DEFECTIVE AS THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHEN USING IGNITER.
