Question about Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer

Fisher and Paykel GW703 OOB Switch Fault I've diagnosed a OOB (out of balance) switch fault with a GW703 washing machine from the error code 00101011. I've checked the switch and it moves freely and clicks when pushed in. I've checked the wiring and it appears to be plugged in. I have not as of yet removed the switch to check it closer. The machine is also level and the bias spring appears fine. Would this be an issue that is best resolved with a new OOB switch or is it an issue with the Motor Controller Module?

Hi just read your posting. Now the easiest way to check to see if the problem is your oob switch is to join the two wires that go to the switch with a small piece of wire so there is conductivity between them. This will bypass the switch and if you still have a problem then it could be your motor controller or your rotor position sensor. Please try the joining of the wires and see how you go.If it rectifies the fault then change the switch, if it does not rectify the fault then I can help you further when you reply back. Please turn the power off at the wall before you do this bypass.Make sure when you join the wires you tape up the joins with tape to stop them shorting out on something. When you have joined the wires try a cycle and see how it goes.Hope this helps.

I was constantly having a problem with the OOB switch on our Fisher Paykel GWL10. Usually cleaning the switch with a electric contact cleaner worked fine, until now. We had a load of laundry to get done, so I tried your 'bypass' suggestion and machine worked fine. Is it necessary to change the switch or can I just eliminate it altogether and leave the bypass?

Hi just read your posting.I would recommend you change the switch as this switch will stop the machine jumping around if it goes out of balance. They are quite cheap but make sure you buy a switch that has the contacts ,NORMALLY OPEN AND NORMALLY CLOSED, as you will using the NORMALLY CLOSED CONTACTS.Hope this helps and please reply on how you got on or for further assistance.Looking forward to your reply.

I had exactly the same problem so followed your advice and it worked. Thanks so much. Will now try and hunt down a replacement switch. Cheers.

I also had the same issue but the switch was fine after testing in diagnostic mode 4 (push tub to back right and 4th wash ligght should come on). After taking the top off, found that bias spring that connects from front left support rod to red spring bias clip on outer tub had come disconnected. Probably one big out of balance load knocked it off. Looks like it got a stretched a bit so ordered from searspartsdirect for $11 with shipping. Current one is still connected and no problems so far.

That spring aint much, but it keeps the outer tub from moving to the back right and triggering the out of balance sensor, which was causing machine to stop in the spin cycle. Everything else seems to be in good working order upon visual inspection. Both F&P washer and dryer have been easy to work with and repair so far (dryer had bad/squeaky pulley that needed replacement after 6 yrs).

It is a problem with your out of balance switch. The primary source of problem is usually mechanical and they say to check the following. 1. check that the out of balance (OOB) switch is free to move. 2. Check that no harnesses are blocking switch movement. 3. Check that switch operates correctly when activated, Replace switch if suspect. 4. If the OOB micro switch shows signs of corrosion, replace the switch and fit a condensation kit to the console area.
Secondary source of problems can be the wiring. Check the harness to the switch and make sure that it is connected correctly. The terminals should be connected to the normally closed position. If the harness shows signs of corrosion then replace the harness. Hope this helps.

What is code 43

Code 43 is Out Of Balance fault. Most probably because the OOB switch has failed (not uncommon) or the trigger arm has become jammed over the bowl.
The OOB mechanism is under the main motor controller module.
To access the controller and the OOB switch you have to remove the 2 screws at the rear of the facia. Fold the display panel forward and remove the larger screw which secures the controller. At this point you may be able to fold the controller to the rear without removing many (or any) of the connecting wires. This will expose the OOB switch. These switch contacts can become oxidised. If the switch won't 'click' it should be replaced. Test switch continuity with a multitester.
Make sure the replacement switch has the same function mode as the one you remove. (Some switch to 'ON' and some to 'OFF' )
I have described the most common cure for a code 43, but remember there are other reasons for the fault to be detected..
Good luck...Nomess

Code 43

Hi,
Error code 43 indicates that the washer is 'out of balance' . The switch is under the motor controller board. This is accessed by removing the 2 screws at rear of facia and exposing the motor board which is attached to the hob. The micro switch might be probably the faulty one. When replacing the switch make sure it's the same as the one coming off as they can be opposite function. Sometimes the oob arm below the oob switch can get jammed over the edge of the bowl and result in the same fault.

Thank you !!

The microswitch is most probably faulty.or there is oxidation on the slide on connections.
