Maybe the 'switch' is on the wrong setting (write protected or not) on the sd card.

When I turn on camera it comes up Write Protect. Won't let me erase or take photos.

You didn't give the model of your Olympus camera so I'll assume it uses SD cards.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

When camera is turned on "PROTECTED CARD" comes

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Protected card- when I turn my camera on- it comes up and says Protected Card and will not let me take or delete pictures.

Try removing the memory card and move the small locking switch on the side of the card to the opposite position from where it is. That should remove the protection on the SD card and allow it to record etc.

Nikon Coolpix 5200 Getting Message ""Memory Card is Write Protected"

Inspect your SD card carefully. Some SD cards come with a write-protect lock switch on the side of the card. When looking at an SD card from the top there is one required notch on the right side (the side with the diagonal notched corner) and on the left side there is usually a switch. This is the write-protect switch. When this write-protect switch is in the down position (away from the end that is inserted) then it is write protected and read-only. When the switch is in the up position it is write enabled.
