Not aquiring satellite signals - GPS Devices

I bought a Nuvi 660 in February, and it constantly had problems acquiring satellites. Usually I could correct it by turning it off and on once or twice. Just this week that 'fix' stopped working. I downloaded new software, performed a master reset, but still nothing. Sending it back to Garmin for a new one.

After 1.5 years, Nuvi 360 has difficulty acquiring satellites. It would find them once in awhile only to lose again in 5-10 minutes. Resetting the unit did not help. Any other ideas?

I have had my Garmin 660 about 1 1/2 to 2 years and now it suddenly cannot aquire sattelite signal and the screen stays on night setting. I have tried the reset button, downloading latest software, etc. Nothing has helped. Considering a new GPS device, but may not be Garmin.

It seems to be a problem with Garmin's internal battery, you cannot replace it yourself. It has to be sent off to Garmin and here in the UK they charge £138 to replace the battery. They only last approximately 15 months then the problems begin, such as "not acquiring satellites". Won't be buying another.

Try looking up cost plus batteries if you have a location near you they can replace it cheap!!!!!!

Gps not acquiring satellites

Press and hold the antenna signal strength icon on the display to bring up Satellite reception information. This will show you what, if any, satellites are being tracked. It will also tell you if you're in DEMO mode, in which case real satellite signals won't be used for the position.

Additionally, you can check the hardware by using the built-in hardware self-test features by pressing and holding the battery icon. Examine the information presented on multiple pages by pressing 'next'. Look for the hardware TEST button and press it. Wait several seconds for results.

These two steps should at least tell you where the problem is. If you ARE getting Satellite signals but they aren't being used by the hardware, you may need to reset your unit. Also check for firmware updates by using the Garmin Update utility available on their web site.

Garmin nuvi 200w not getting any signal....

I recommend trying the hard reset and the newest webupdater (March 31, 2010) and se if you get better results.

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

GPS wont aquire a satellite

Hello there and happy new year
If Your Unit Cannot Acquire Satellite Signals
  1. For your Garmin GPS unit to acquire the satellite signals it needs to function properly, the unit must be taken outside, away from mountains, tall buildings and heavy foliage where it can get a clear view of the sky. Keep the unit stationary for several minutes while the GPS unit acquires the necessary satellite signals. It may take several minutes for the unit to locate a good solid signal
  2. OK
  3. Hope this is very helpful please keep me posted on this ok?
    Best regards Michael

What does 'aquire gps signal' mean and how do i fix it? i have a navman s150

It means that your device is trying to locate the minimum number of satellites for a location fix. Once it finds those at least threesatellites with adequate signal strength, it will give you the location you're at.

There's no niid to 'fix' this, because once the satellites are found, the notice will disappear. (At least it should.)

My tom tom ONe cannot get a valid Satelite Signal just stays wait

If you are indoors then move outdoors to get a signal.

If you are outdoors then move your location by a few yards and sometimes it will suddenly aquire the satellites.

Happens occasionally with my unit. I normally set a route up then start driving and it suddenly starts to work OK.

Since my last time i used garmin nuvi 260 it cant find a signal

Try going outside with a clear veiw of the sky, since it cant aquire a satellite its simulating the last place where you were. Try canceling the route and see if it connects with the satellite.

Unit will not acquire the satellite signs

FYI ....My Roadmate 760 would not aquire a signal, I went to diagnostic screen and found it was detecting/tracking 0/0 satellites. Held the plugged in unit out the window and within 10 seconds was tracking 7 satellites! Turned out my 1999 Olds Silhouette Van has a anti-glare filter inside the factory windshield that blocks GPS signals. My wifes 2001 Chevy Impala also has same type filter. Check your windshield, filter is visible inside glass to within about three inches of edges of glass. Worth a look.
