Save as Office 2003 or XP (or earlier) not as 2007 (which creates a .docx [note the x!] file which is different from a .doc file and which cannot be read by any other program than Office 2007 -which most people do not have)

This is probably your problem.

I have had no problem in saving to .doc and transferring files to other people.

We have windows xp but microsoft 2003 loaded. Files come out as ODT files when we try to open them on another computer Can we convert them to files that can be opened?

It seems you actually have OpenOffice.org installed, not Office 2003. The filetype that it saves as default are ODT files, to solve this:
  1. Open the file on the computer you saved it on, and choose File>Save As.. and select the .doc format.
  2. Or use this site to convert the documents.
  3. To make saving .doc files the default behaviour, open the program, go to Tools>Options, click the Load/Save option on the left, and then General.
  4. In the bottom right, search for "Always save as" and select "Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP"
  5. Refer to this picture: crash91.png

preinstalled office is simply a time limited trial version and you have to buy the key to use it. on the other hand, you can download open office (www.openoffice.org) for free and that will work just as well. all you have to remember is to either set it up to save in microsoft format through the tools>options>load/save section or just choose save as and change the format to micosoft whenever you save the document. setting up the default save feature is probably best, that way you don't forget to do it.
yes, this program does work for ms docs, I use it for my ms created accounts spreadsheets and it handles them without issue.
many people won't use it because it doesn't say microsoft on the label - more fool them!

I dont have microsoft word 2007.how can i have one?

You don't actually need to buy Office 2007. You can download a free word-processing/excel/access type of program. Go to www.openoffice.org and download it ... free!

When you use openoffice to write a word document, choose 'save as XP document'. It is very easy to use ... and free ..

My word 2003 doesnot allow to open downloads frommy word 2003

because microsoft has to keep chang the word file format to keep up with compression if one thing you can do is when using 2007 use the save as option and change the "save as type to" rich text format or just a word document

I need a 25-character product key for microsoft office home and student 2007 to load in my laptop please?

If your are not very particular in using MS office there is a very easy answer. Forget this MS office thing. Download openoffice.org. Click the link below
http://www.openoffice.org
It is absoultely free. And works way better than MS office in my opinion. You don't need to search around for a product key. However, it saves a doucment in .odt format instead of your regular .doc format. But there is no need for worry. If you need to send a file to anyone who can only read a .doc file open office provides you the option to save it in .doc format. Which solves the problem if any. Try it once an you may never think of MS office ever. Open office also gives you the option of saving a document directly into PDF format. So any one who recieves it cannot edit it, if you want uneditable documents to be sent to somebody. With MS office you need to buy a new software to achieve this. More money wasted. Like wise XL/ presentations/database type documents are saved in the open document formats, but open office gives you the option to save all of these in the MS office default formats. It has much better selection of fonts and clipart/galleries too.Good luck and have fun.

Free microsoft word download

For a free trial version you can try the link below:
http://microsoft-office-2007.en.softonic.com
However, if you are looking for free office productivity suite, open office would be the easier option, as it is totally free and works as good as or even better than MS office. Try the link below for the same.
http://www.openoffice.org
Open office does way better than the Home and student MS office version do. Though open office saves in .odt format instead of the .doc format, you can save in .doc format also. If you want to send a document in .doc format to someone who can read only .doc format, this helps. Like wise, you can save in MS office formats for spread sheet or presentations. Open office also give you the option of saving in PDF format, if you want to send a document which is not editable by the recipient. One also will get a great selection of fonts and clip art galleries.

Can ms works 6 files be opened with open office .org

Hi

Openoffice can read anything that MS office can make. Openoffice can also save files in MS office's .doc format. So, if you are sending documents to people that don't have Openofice, and that need to edit the documents you should send them in .doc/.xls/etcetera. If they don't need to edit the document it's best to use .pdf since that guarantees that they will see the document as you intended.

Window XP Home Edition Reinstallation?

If you did a reinstall of the Microsoft Widows XP or Vista and expected Microsoft Word documents to be usable without also reinstalling Microsoft Word you are out of luck. Microsoft Word is a seperate software suite. You can do one of the following:
1. Use openoffice to work with the word docs (openoffice.org for the free download)
2. Get ahold of MS Office from either a store purchase or a friend with a volume license.
3. Download from Microsoft.com the trial version of MS Office 2007 and use it until the trial runs out.

Hope this helps.
