Do not try and replace the blade.
They are not ment to be replaced let alone even resharped
If it can not cut any more time to buy a new model

Stihl HS45 hedge trimmer runs fine, blades move well, does not appear to cut hedge - what could be the problem ?

Dull blades! Lol, or they're not meeting eachother on each reciprocating stroke so there is no shearing action, much like a pair of scissors. Check to see if the blade bolts are too loose or is the blades are warped or if the cutting edges are simply too dull

Where can I get the blades sharpened? Marco Stratford CT 06614

you can do it yourself with instructions from ehow.com. see below OR you can get it done at a small engine shop repair, where they fix the lawnmowers, slingtrimmers and chainsaws such as Makita, shtil or any other company that makes them. Hope this helps!
How to Sharpen Hedge Trimmer Blades Instructions Things You'll Need
  • Metal filer Eye protective goggles
  1. Sharpen Your Shears
    • 1 Place the hedge trimmers on a flat surface. Ensure that the blades are pointed away from your body.
    • 2 Position a pair of pliers around the bolt on your hedge trimmers. Clamp the pliers on the bolt securely.
    • 3 Twist the bolt counter-clockwise to remove it.
    • 4 Separate the paired blades.
    • 5 Hold one of the handles with the blade facing away from you. Slide a metal filer down the length of the blade until you reach the pointed end. Continue to sharpen the blade for a minute or two, and then do the same with the other blade.
    • 6 Test the blades with a piece of paper. Hold a piece of paper next to the blade, and then try to cut the paper without using a lot of force. If the paper slices easily, then your blades are completely sharpened. If the blades do not cut the paper, continue to sharpen the blades with the metal filer, and repeat the paper test.

I have a 14 in. electric chain saw I bought last year and need to download a manual

A hedge trimmer is a type of agricultural or garden tool. And as the name suggests, it is used to trim hedges. There are mainly two types of hedge trimmers - manual and electrical. Amongst these there are some below mentioned variations.

Stand Alone: A stand alone hedge trimmer could be either power driven or manual. The power driven stand alone hedge trimmer uses gasoline or electricity to operate. However, the manual or hedge trimmer driven by human force is best when you consider environmental factors. They are cheaper and easy to operate. Generally gas powered hedge trimmers or electrically powered hedge trimmers are equipped with safety devices. The mechanism is such that they operate only when the operator has both his hands on the handles.

Tractor Mounted: This type of a hedge trimmer is more suitable for pruning of plants and crops. Tractor mounted hedge trimmers either have a movable arm or they do not have a movable arm. The ones without movable arms depend only on rotating blades on a couple of central pivots placed on the tractor's side. Now, these hedge trimmers are best for growing grapes, more specifically for making wine. Small tractors driving between the grape vines are mounted with these type of hedge trimmers, without a movable arm.

Well, this was about hedge trimmers in general. Now lets get down to business. Here's a low down on a few best hedge trimmers. The following is an overview of electrical hedge trimmers comparison.

Hedge Trimmer Reviews

Stihl Hedge Trimmer HS81T: Well, this one is surely up for grabs. Stihl HS81T is a great option for keeping your hedges in a perfect shape. Stihl HS81T is lightweight with balanced design and low vibration levels. It has 24 inch or 30 inch double sided blade length. It's also equipped with rear swivel handle for enhanced comfort at different speeds. The engine power is 0.7 kW and this hedge trimmer weighs between 5.2 kg and 5.4 kg, depending on the blade size. It is good especially for shaping and sculpting your hedge. It does not start on the first pull sometimes, still Stihl is a good option for hedge trimming.

Black & Decker NHT518: Now you would perhaps love this, if you do not want the whole baggage of fuel and electric wires and so on. It is cordless and runs on a battery and 22 inch blades that give a smooth and level cut. It does a neat job of branches less than 1/2 inch thick and you get optional extra battery packs. However, it gets a thumbs down from users with regards to poor battery life. On the other hand the users like the cordless design. Again, they say that it is not as powerful as corded trimmers. Nevertheless, it is lightweight and makes minimum noise. So you can go for it.

Echo HC-150 Petrol Commercial Grade Hedge Trimmer: Well, hopefully most of the users would echo my statement that, Echo is a very efficient hedge trimmer. This is a high performing, commercial grade hedge trimmer powered by petrol. It is a smooth and **** free hedge trimmer and is great for pruning and trimming. Durability is apparently the forte of this Echo hedge trimmer. Superb double reciprocating blades cut on their return and forward strokes, which give a smooth, uniform finish to your hedges. Not a bad choice either!

Makita UH6350 Electric Hedge Trimmer: This is a well designed tool with a great cutting action, according to a magazine on mechanical products. It is light weight and can deal very well with branches upto ½ inch of diameter. Although one of the disadvantage is that you have to bear with a cord and has a single blade operation. A fairly good option if you are thinking of buying a hedge trimmer.

Well, there you go, this was a small list of best hedge trimmers. I hope the hedge trimmers comparison was useful for you.

Take your pick according to your requirements and any hedge trimmer is good so far as it helps you keep your plants in good shape! What say!

Do I ever need to sharpen? If I do, how?

Hey i found this for you i might help. Click on the link at the bottom!!

How to Sharpen a Black and Decker Hedge Hog sharpen-black-decker-hedge-hog-800x800.jpg Maintaining the sharpness of electric timmers can made landscape trimming easier with beautiful results. Electric hedge trimmers make trimming hedges and bushes easier and quicker than using manual hand-powered trimmers. Electric trimmers, the most popular type in the U.S., cost less and require less maintenance than gasoline-powered models. Electric trimmers are used most often by homeowners with the Black and Decker Hedge Hog series being very popular. While they are not premium products, electric trimmers like the Black and Decker Hedge Hog trimmer can keep trimming reliably for years with proper maintenance, including sharpening the blade's teeth.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need
  • Work table
  • Two medium size clamps
  • Dremel tool or similar hand-held multi-purpose tool
  • Grinding wheel attachment for hand-held tool.
  • Dremel 971 (or similar) aluminum oxide grinding sharpening stone with a tip small enough to cover the flat facet of a Hedge Hog blade tooth
    • 1 Unplug the electric trimmer before trying to sharpen the teeth.
    • 2 Clamp the electric trimmer to the work table using two clamps if necessary so the Hedge Hog is firmly held down with the blade teeth accessible over the edge of the work table.
    • 3 Insert and secure grinding tip in hand-held multi-purpose tool.
    • 4 Maneuver the grinding tip so it is perpendicular to the facet of the Hedge Hog tooth.
    • 5 Sharpen teeth in one direction, being careful to try and maintain the same cutting edge angle on the sharpened tooth of no less than 35 degrees.
    • 6 Make same number of grinding passes/grind the same length of time a few seconds on each tooth.
Tips & Warnings
  • This task should take about 15 minutes.
  • Keep a light touch; too much force can break the grinding surface.
  • For best results, insert the sharpening bit slightly less than all the way into the tool.

Hedge trimmer blade not moving

I have a Troy-Bilt gas powered hedge trimmer. My blades would not move. After tearing it apart, I found that there were some spacers under the 5 or 6 screws along the blades. These spacers are steel and designed so that you don't overtighten the screws. However, around those steel spacers, there is a teflon type material that makes the oval shape of the slot. That teflon had fallen apart and lodged so that the blades would not move. I removed the teflon and put the spacers back in and it now works fine. There is a little play between the spacer and the edge of the slot and it will probably eventually wear out but at least I got a few more cuttings off of it.

Trimer buing Question

Double position trimmers For extended reach while on the ground, a double position trimmer avoids you having to climb up high by allowing you to adjust the handle into a right angle to the blades for a level cut across the top of the hedge. Clippings collector As you trim your hedge, collect those stray cuttings in a clippings collector for a neater finish. Automatic cut out An important safety feature, this automatically switches off the hedge trimmer once the trigger is released. Hand guard For reassuring safety, a hand guard will protect you from the moving blades and from falling cuttings as you work.
