If your "backup" account has Administrator privileges, you can set the password for any other account on your computer, including the one that you currently cannot access.

it does not have administrator privleges now what?

  • ikkenom Jul 22, 2010

    Reboot in Safe Mode.

You should start-up with 'Administrator' privileges, and thus should be able to set the password on _any_ ID, or to elevate your "backup" ID to become an 'Administrator' ID.

The simplest way to remove a BIOS password is to simply remove the CMOS battery. A computer will remember its settings and keep the time even when it is turned off and unplugged because these parts are powered by small battery inside the computer called a CMOS battery. If we pull out this battery, the computer will forget alot of its hardware settings, including its BIOS password. This should not be performed on Laptops if you are not experienced working with laptop hardware.

How to unlock my dell laptop

If you can tell me what the Os do you use, it could be must better.

On XP you can try this:
Boot computer and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice when you See Windows welcome screen / login screen. It'll show classic login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in username field and leave password field blank, press Enter and you should be able to login Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".

On Win 7 or Vista:
Ctrl+Alt+Delete won't work, you have to use some windows password reset tool. I recommend Windows Password Reset.

Forget password before entering windows

You can remove or change the Window's User oradministrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access todownload the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD.Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot upthe laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CDwhich contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removalprogram.Click on one of these links todownload HIREN'S BOOTCD :-http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

I forgot the password for my dell mini 1012

Which Password? Bios Password? Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen Login Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista? Windows 7?

OK, if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightenedsecurity on it so you've got to have a password reset disk which 99% of thepeople who own laptops with windows 7 fail to do. It should be one of thefirst things you do when you buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced withreinstalling the Operating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator (hopefullyyou didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once the desktopappears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

HDD says frozen password

Yikes, that means you put a password on the drive but forgot the password. If it won't let you in, you didn't put the password in correctly.

User password lockout

Hard disk password is set from the BIOS. It is usually set in conjunction with the Power On Password. This password is stored on the EEPROM chip and is very difficult to crack - no backdoor passwords. It is used to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop and the data on the hard disk. Removing the hard disk and inserting it into another computer will not allow access to data without the HDD password.
