Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden
I have a 24 hp briggs in a troy bilt riding mower, model 445777, type 0231-E1,code030826YG. One of the adjustments on the intake valve came loose. I thought that I could check the other side and use the same clearances to reset the loose adjustment, It has no slack on the intake valve at anytime when you rotate the engine by hand. Does this have something to do with the compression release and how do I reset the valves?
I believe this does have comression release. Make sure you're rotating the motor in the correct direction, as I think the compression release only works in one direction. Adjust the valve to .004 with the piston at TDC make sure it's on the power stroke. Turn the motor till intake opens, then when you continue to rotate crank, unitl valve closes and piston gets back to TDC. Adjust both valves to .004. Then do the other cylinder the same way.
