Your gas detector utilizes a sensor that is sensitive to certain types of cleaning products especially ones that contain ammonia. Products that are dispersed by aerosol spray can also cause false alarms. Be very careful when using these types of products in close proximity as it is possible to poison the sensor. If this occurs it will permanently damage the detector and you will have no other recourse but to replace the detector.

Model kn-coeg-3 i get the gas alarm to go off once in a while. it shows around 253 on the display. i live next to dump. could there be methane gas in the air? i don't smell anything.

Yes, it's possible. But, the odor of methane gas from a landfill is usually noticeable.

My concern is where the combo detector is placed. It should not be in a room that a gas appliance is in. As, just the normal turning on and turning off of a burner, will leave a little residual gas in the air. But, it should dissipate very quickly. But, it could cause a false alarm, if the detector is in the same room as the appliance. Plus, the detector should always be plugged into a wall outlet no more than 2' off the floor.

Unfortunately, these Kiddie Combo Detectors are not all they cracked up to be. I respond at least once a day, to someones question about them. Many have had to return them to Kidde for repair of replacement. That's not a good track record.

My best advice is service (clean) the unit at least every 6 months, because they become clogged with dust, lint and/or pet air. You can accomplish this with a can of compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with). Remove the battery, which will give you some access to the interior of the housing and blow it out with the canned compressed air. Pay particular attention to the small vents on the front of the detector. Once complete, reinstall the battery and you're good to go. Don't forget to change the battery annually.

Hope this helps. Please let me know.

My combo gas /carbon monoxide detector started beeping one day when I was baking and it said gas. I had to unplug it. Then a few weeks later I was sleeping and a 6 am it sarted beeping again and the gas...

The unit may be trying to tell you there is a dangerous situation in your house. Try calling the fire department non-emergency number and describe the problem. They will most likely send a unit to check out your premises. If you can't find a non-emergency number, dial 911 and ask to be connected to the closest station to you to discuss a possible carbon monoxide or gas leak situation. DO NOT SLEEP in the house until you have this checked out. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. My Kidde "Nighthawk" carbon monoxide

Sounds like you may be due a warranty replacement. Call the Kidde "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 with your Model number, serial number, and manufacturing date. The original sales receipt would be helpful but probably not absolutely necessary. Good luck. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. How can I shut off my Kidde carbon monoxide detector when beeping

Here is the link to the manual for your Kidde model KN-COB-LCB-A
Carbon Monoxide Detector. This may help you solve your issue.

You may find more related information on my website. If you need a replacement or you need to add additional Carbon Monoxide Detectors in other levels of your house, you can purchase them here.

This issue should be solved immediately, Carbon Monoxide Poisoning can only be avoided by making sure you have good working CO Detectors in your house, camp or recreational vehicle.

My Kidde Model # KN-COEG-3 keeps going off and lists 217 now 205 now again 217 and this is with the door open and fresh air coming into my place ??

I took the following from the Kidde website. They only answer the phone Mon-Fri, from 8-5, EST. I checked it out because my almost new Kidde CO detector is showing an Error code.
The next time your carbon monoxide alarm has ERR on the display, push and hold the Peak Level button. You will see an E and an O followed by a number.Contact our hotline at 1-800-880-6788 and provide us the error code, along with the model number, assembly number and date of manufacture from the back of your unit.If your unit is under warranty, a replacement will be mailed to you.

YES!!!! If this unit is working properly you should not be in the house. Maximum allowable safety level for an 8 hour period is 50! If you think it's working properly call the fire department! This will cause dizziness, nausea, etc. Let your fire department find the problem! If you don't believe me follow this link to owner's manual but do it quickly: http://www.kiddeus.com/utcfs/ws-384/Assets/KN-COB-B(9CO5)en.pdf
