Question about HP Compaq Presario SR1420nx (SR1420NXPS69AA) PC Desktop

Help troubleshooting I switched out a nonworking DVD rom and now my pc constantly reboots. It is 2yrs. old and before I did this there were no problems. I tried to switch back the old rom and same thing, also same issue with no Rom drive at all. When I boot the Compaq logo comes up then I get an error telling me "we apologize for any inconvenience, but there has been a hardware change...." and then it asks if I want to boot up in a safe mode, normally, or the last good configuration. If I choose a safe mode it give me a bunch of DOS mess, in other modes it acts like it is booting into windows (running XP) then reboots and starts all over. I have an old HD in this pc and if I disconnect my main HD I can get the PC to boot with the old drive and even view data on the primary drive. What happened??????????????? This was a simple process I have done many times before. I now need to get info off the old drives but fear something may be corrupt. Any advice?

You prolloy have to go into the bios setup program and save the hardware changes. I have a compaq, and it always prompts me to "press f1 to save changes" after any hardware change, but for you, like i said, you might have to go into bios setup to save the changes.

CD Rom not detected

CD Rom not detected? As in the Disk or your CD Rom Drive? If it is the disk you should make sure that your drive is compatible to read it. There are different kinds of DVD's out there.
If your Drive isn't recognized this will take a little bit of troubleshooting to determine the issue. First, you should make sure it hasnt become disconnected. Does it open and close? If you go into device manager, is it listed under CD/DVD Drives? Try running a windows update to see if it has drivers for it. You can try to reboot your PC. It is also possible that the drive is actually failing and needs to be replaced.

How to boot from a USB CD/DVD ROM MY System is Dell Optiplex 170L Thanking in advance

If you want to boot from a external cd/dvd rom here's what to do.
  1. Connect your USB CD/DVD ROM to your computer.
  2. After connecting, you must start from boot up. so Reboot your computer.
  3. You must go to your bios settings, so during boot, press DELETE or if it doesn't work reboot again and try F2.
  4. Now once on the bios settings, search for the boot device, or boot priority.
  5. You must make your USB CD/DVD ROM as First boot, or just place it at the top of the list.
  6. You can adjust the position by pressing (-)minus and (+)plus signs in your keyboard.
  7. Now once the USB CD/DVD ROM is at the top. press F10 to save the changes and click Yes.
  8. And that's it. Your PC will now boot from the USB CD/DVD ROM.

Make sure the software for this DVD drive is installed into the PC and then your drive is connected to be detected and installed, This will also remove off all previous drives that might cause errors.
