Question about Frigidaire PLHS67EESB Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire PLHS67EEsb7 side by side. Every couple of months, something happens that causes the coils in the freezer to freeze over and the fridge and freezer stop cooling altogether. I have to take everything out and use a hair dryer to defrost the coils. Once they're defrosted, it works again just fine...for a few months. I'm tired of this problem and would like to fix it once and for all! What's up?

Will that fix it for good? Do you know what is causing the problem? Is it a faulty part, or just accumulated moisture over time? I'm a breast feeding mom and can't afford to lose my frozen milk supply by having the freezer break again.

Clean out all the vents, syringe the drain holes with clorine bleach, check the door seals for air tightness all round...after a full defrost(do not help it with a hairdryer as this only defrost the ice you can see....try to defrost it when you can leave it for 24/36 hours....with the doors open and switched off....then dry thoroughly.

if you live in a high humidity area, frost will build up quiet quickly, even though it is frost free(the food is kept frost free).it is not a problem to keep the vents/drains clean(free of dust etc).

try to ensure that all food is wrapped so that minimises the frost a bit,and check door seals are flat to the cabinet, nothing will stop ice buildup, but minimises the problem.

I have a Frigidaire side by side frig, model FRS20ZKG. My supply inlet to the ice maker keeps freezing which after 2-3 cycles will not make any more ice because no water can make it to the tray. This...

The supply inlet to the ice maker is connected (via metal coupling) to the radiator-like-coils in the freezer which are actually hot and they keep the line from freezing. If this coupling is not connected close to a heat source, then the supply line can freeze as you are experiencing.

If possible reroute the supply line out of the freezer area

Freezer won't freeze, but refrigerator section fine, have cleaned main coils and removed ice buildup on defrost coils, still won't freeze, only gets to about 32 degrees

one problem i had was the condensor fan had stopped working because it was clogged up with ice buildup, check and make sure the fan is not iced up, once a year i have to unclog ice from the condensor fan which located behing the white panel, which you unscrew and you can get a visual on this fan. my freezer would stop working but the fridge part was fine. something as small as that was causing this problem for me.

Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

Fridge problems - frigidaire

Sort of sounds like the adaptive defrost board is bad and you are not going into a defrost cycle. Do you have ice build up on the lower interior freezer section? Are the vent slots full of frost/ice? Ideally, pull the freezer shelfs out and take the little aluminum panel off the interior back to look at the coils. Are they basically a block of ice and frost? The problem happens when the unit doesn't go into defrost cycle and the coils freeze up. That blocks the air flow in the freezer so you get frozen food at the bottom but soft stuff at the top. And the frige just can't get enough cool/cold air from the freezer section to cool anymore. Power surges or blackouts, etc. can just destroy the defrost circuit board. Without good air flow the unit is not going to cool properly.
