Question about D-Link DI-634M Wireless Router (DI634M)

Unable to connect wireless router to cable modem

I'm using a Motorola Surfboard SB5101 cable modem and we just bought a D-Link DI-634M wireless router in order to setup a wireless network.
I know that the cable modem works because I can connect directly into it and connect to the internet. However, none of the lights on the router are working except the power light and one light showing the existing connection to my computer. Nothing else lights up and nothing flashes. There is just no response at all.
I have tried resetting the router multiple times, as well as the modem and my computer, but there has been no change at all. I'm not sure if my router isn't working right because something needs to be changed, or if the router is just faulty and needs to be replaced.
I really need some help.

I can't connect to anything through the router at all, whether internet or the router itself. Since pressing the reset button has absolutely no effect on the router's lights or even the connection itself, I'm feeling more inclined to believe that the router is faulty. Any advice to reach the router IP?

You'll have to cloned the MAC address of your PC (the one that works when you connect it directly to the modem) to the new router. This is simply because Cable ISP used some sort of authentication in their system and that's why you're not getting online.

Login to the router' type http://192.168.0.1 on the address bar, select admin then just leave password blank.

Go to the WAN tab, look for MAC address clone button, click on enable or clone button.

Power cycle everything and that should work.

What kind of router do I need to get so I can get wifi out of a Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable Modem ? My PC isn't wifi compatible but I have other equipment that are.

You will want to get a "Wireless N" Router, also known as an 802.11n Router. Price range is up to you, but here is a relatively cheap one that performs well: http://goo.gl/Szjovd

I bought a Belkin Basic wireless router. How do I connect it to my modem if there is only one ethernet port in the back?

This is a wireless router. The one Ethernet cable has to be connected to the modem. The computer connects wirelessly. Check to make sure your computer has a wireless card.

I cant get my motorola sb5101 surf board cable modem to connect to a belkin g wireless router. the light on the belkin flashes orange when i try to connect it to the modem but no internet connection

I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.

I have a Motorola SURFboard SB5101 Cable Modem a Netgear mr814v2 wireless router, I obtain the ip address on router status but for some reason my internet communication losed. I verified the configuration...

Hi, follow the steps below to configure MR814 with your motorola surfboard:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
RECONFIGURE:
1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.0.1
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

You need to disable the UPnP function on the Belkin router. Log into the router(192.168.2.1), and look under System Settings. If you haven't changed the password on the router, the default password is blank, i.e., no password.
