Question about IBM ThinkPad T43 Notebook
LCD goes dark intermittently making the machine practiacally useless. In Linux I can go to another screen and coming back to X I get the lcd working for a while, then it goes away again and I have to do the ctl+alt+F# dance all over again. In Windows when it goes away I have to reboot!
I think you are having problem with backlight. The concept of laptop is that if there is problem with backlight then it will try to shut it down(shut the light down).If you restart your laptop ,that mean you turn the light on again...after that if its blink or something wrong then again your system will try to shut it down to prevent other part get spoil.
What you have to do is..
1.problem from backlight replace backlight
2.problem from inverter replace inverter
3.problem from motherchip...repair motherboard.

I have a problem with my IBM T43. It starts up with a dark screen and I can still see windows boot up. I have try clicking ctrl+alt+F# and ctrl+alt+F7 but it doesn't work.
Please can anyone help me slove my problem.

I have a t43 too and i face the same problem ..but in order to quicky solve this problem ...i press FN key and then F7 that will try to switch to external display and now since you dont have any external display press FN and f7 again to come bak to your laptop screen ....
this is what i figured out instead of restarting the computer again

There is issue I have run into on alot of IBM t40 series with the screens going dim, I don't know what its called but the board that has all the LED's on the screen is easily replaced and usually fixes the problem, take out the 3 screws on the front of the screen, and one of the small ones on the right side, you should be able to left the bezel (carefully its stuck to the screen) and you will see the board with the LED's take out the screw for it and unplug the white 2 pronged cable and the the small ribbon cable attached to back, get another one (I suggest off a broken screen) and replace.
