I have a Telematrix Spectrum plus speaker 40-button telephone. The problem I keep having is that the line that says 'pickup' continues flashing when nothing connected with that button is being used. It won't stop until it wants to. I have tried pressing it while on the line and while not on the line. It just continues to flash until it decides to turn off. What can I do?

You have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system records messages when someone calls while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.
40? It's the pickup code for a Panasonic system and it's the universal pickup code for phones in your ring group. Make sure that you and all the other people are in the same group and 40 will work. As an alternative, you can use the directed call pickup code. (41+extension) or program the phones to ring differently. This assumes a TA series system.
I'm not familiar with a KX-T6160 system, so do you mean SIX-SIXTEEN-DEE(616d) or SIX-SIXTEEN-TEN (61610)? Either way, the cordless phone works. You need access codes, like 9 for an outside line, FLASH and dial an extension for transfer, 40 for ringing call pickup (on the 61610), and 58x (61610) to pick a line from hold. Your phone system manual has a single line telephone user guide in it.
these 5 leds lights when phone is out of program. every phone should have his own indicator showing (when handset is off) his position in chain of phones. to make them stop flashing do following:
1. push and hold "PROGRAME" button until "MUTE" indicator lights (you'll hear beep sound). 2. push one "1" to "5" button on numeric keyboard depending on telephone's position in chain (must be unique). 3. push "MEMORY" button. Now when you pickup handset only one indicator should light.
Two of the above codes work for me, so let's figure out what you're doing. First of all, did you convert the intercom calls to ringing on all calls? If I have auto answer turned on, I can't pick up anything.
If the phone is ringing, I can use 40 and 41xx to pick it up. I can retrieve a call from hold by dialing 53x where x is the line number on hold (just in case you're trying this with a cordless or single line set).
By default, all extensions are in pickup group 1, but 41xx directed call pickup will always work if the Call pickup deny is properly set as you indicated
Each telephone must be connected to line 1 and line 2 for proper operation. The remaining lines 3 and 4 may — or may not — be
connected to each station as you desire. First plug in the battery,
then the phone lines (1 & 2 are mandatory), and third the power
cord. If your intercome LED is blinking red and green, then press:
STORE IN, followed by "INTERCOM" followed by a free intercom# (i.e.,
any of the memory buttons 1 through 16 not already assigned to another
telephone set). Then wait for the phone to go through its initiation
sequence during which it searches each of the four possible lines.
After that concludes, you should get dial tone on your active lines.
