My WDBAAU0015HBK external harddrive don't boot when i start up my computer. It says initalising USB divices and then when it autodetect the USB mass storage devices it stops. In the BIOS i put the boot sequence on disable for the 3th device so it wont search for it but every time it seeks USB! I can not turn Autodet USB off. When I plugg out the power and when windows XP is started up i plugg it in the drive works perfect. But when i do a restart it chokes. What can i do. I deleted in Windows the USB drivers for mass storage and it installed new one but it doesn?t work . (Intel Pentium 4, 2.8Ghz. 512MB. Win XP Pro SP2)

It sounds like the BIOS is set to auto-boot from the USB device.
Have you reset the 'boot order' in the BIOS?

Also if you are still running sp2 go to Microsoft update and install the updates. You should be running on service pack 3.
(the updates are free, and are more secure than sp2)

SONY VAIO PCV R53 39 DS WON'T BOOT UP

Pull the harddrive out, install in an economical external enclosure.
The external enclosure has a USB cable.

Plug the USB cable into any available USB port, on a working computer.

Go to My Computer, or Computer; and double-click on the drive letter, that corresponds with the external enclosure.

(Actually with the harddrive in that external enclosure, it is now an external harddrive)

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=PCVR539DS&LOC=3#/howtoTab

It's an IDE harddrive. Also known as a PATA harddrive.

A harddrive is measured across it's width.
2-1/2 inches across is a laptop harddrive.
3.5 inches across is a desktop harddrive. (3-1/2 inches)

So you need a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure.

I have a pininfarina simpletech 500GB usb external harddrive that does not show up in the My Computer folder of Windows Explorer. Tried hooking it up to a different computer with the same results; no...

If it is a new hard drive then it needs to be formatted. You can do this by going into your start menu - control panel - administrative tools - computer management - disc manager. I could be a little off on the wording as I don't have my computer handy, but in the disc management you should be able to right click on the drive in here and choose format. This will format the drive to be used. I hope this helps.

Hi,my WD Elements Desktop WDBAAU0015HBK hard drive is not showing on computer.how to solve?plz help me...

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
hope this helps

Boot from external HDD

Hello, it depends on your computer if it can boot from USB. then you can install it on a usb external drive but I dont recomend it. your computer gonna be very slow to start and use. I suggest that you buy a new DISK, they are not so expensive. if you use your external harddrive as your windows partition you just gonna be pissed off when its running so slow.

Usb external harddrive

you have to right click on "my computer", select "manager".. there you can find and select "disk management"
in disk management you can find every drive connected to your pc.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457110.f12zs01_big(l=en-us).jpg

there you will also see your external drive, and you can start to identify the problem (maybe problem with drive letter allocation, filesystem type..). start by rightclicking in the row of your disk to use the contextual menu.
i know it's just a starting point.. but you definitely a need little more troubleshooting.

I don´t have internal cd, only external(usb)

You will need an internal CD drive for the machine in order to load XP. If it doesn't recognize the external in the boot menu, then there is no setting to get it to.
