Hello plissken

HERE is the listing on LG's web site for your DVD ROM drive.

W/ respect to firmware, the rule of thumb is to leave it as it is unless there's a need to upgrade it (in an effort to correct an issue or for compatibility w/ another device or software, for instance)

My recomendation, is to, 1st, get the optical (DVD ROM drive) device installed and try it out. See how it goes.

HERE and HERE are a couple of tutorials on installing optical drives on PCWorld and CNET. They're both a bit dated but if your DVD drive connects via the ATA/EIDE interface, the "rules" are essentially the same.

The one difference is, on most modern PCs now, you can set both of your optical drives (that are on your secondary IDE channel, for instance) to CS (cable select) and use a high density (80 as opposed to 40-wire) IDE ribbon cable (instead of having to jumper one as optical drive as master and the other as slave). The master/salve configuration will work just fine, however in any case. For more information regarding Cable Select and IDE cabling, please, visit THIS web site.

If you have ANY more questions at all, please, post back here and let us know. We'll be more than happy to continue to assist you.

Please, wait until you have everything you need and you no longer need our assistance b4 assigning a rating.

If I answered your questions and you have no other questions or need of our assistance on this topic...would you kindly take just a moment to close the problem by assigning a FIXYA rating for my "solution"? I would be very grateful for your generosity and show of appreciation.

Thank you once again for using FixYa! Have a beautiful day.

By "firmware needed", I wonder if you meant "drivers". In this particular case, the answer is "no". It's true, thought. For most hardware devices that you connect to your computer you will need to install drivers so that the new hardware and the computer's operating system can communicate.

However, there are a handfull of hardware devices whose drivers are built into the operating systems these days. Optical drives are on that short list. So, that's one less thing for you to have to worry about when getting your DVD ROM drive up and running. :)

Hp gdr 8162b ethernet driver

HP Partsurfer does not recognise gdr-8162b at all, nor does anything show up for this code anywhere on the HP site.
eBay sellers seem to think this is DVD-ROM drive, manufactured by Hitachi-LG and sometimes rebranded by HP whose part number (according to some eBayers) is 323588-001.
HP Partsurfer also thinks that 323588-001 is a DVD-ROM drive.
I'm afraid therefore that I'm unable to find an ethernet driver for this code without more info on the HP product.
Sorry

I HAVE NO SOFT SOFTWARE TO INSTALL MY DRIVERS FOR THE HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM 8162B

You should be able to download that, assuming it's a Dell computer, from http://support.dell.com, no? Whoever the maker is, they should have a driver for you to download.

Lg dvd r/w not getting detected while trying to burn any data on a dvd though i reinstalled the os the issue still persists.i tried to check the issue with a new dvd r/w but doesnt help..please help me. i...

Check the LG website as alot of their drives need firmware updates in order to work. If required download and install the firmware following the instructions given on the website. If this is the problem then this fix will work. If still not working doublecheck all connections making sure no cables have come loose. Also you can try using the hardware wizard to attempt to install manually. Hope this helps.

I have a lg DVD-RAM Model no GH22NP20 its not run data cds & DVD-RAM.

need to check firmware version then update it

Here's how to get LG's Auto Firmware Updater
Go here :
http://www.lge.com/support/software.jsp
Select
> Location = North America > USA/ Canada
Then
> Product = DVD-ROM (writer)
> Operating System = Vista
> Subject = LG Auto Firmware Download

Download the .zip file to your Desktop
You'll need to "Extract All" from the .zip
and then run the setup file
You'll need to allow Internet Access ( AV/IS )
The Updater will probably need to Update itself - before being active

To Manually Search For Firmware Updates
> Product = DVD-ROM (writer)
> Operating System = Vista
> Subject = Firmware

Look through the Listings for your Specific Drive
I would recommend Disabling the LG Auto Firmware Updater
- from Windows Start-up
You can open the Updater at any time - from All Programs

Need drivers for lg cd/dvd slimline drive [gdr-8082n]

Hi,

dependant on operating system.
you should not need drivers for cd/dvd drives, as the standard drivers supplied with windows 2000-ME-XP should be sufficent to work the drive.
i,d suggest checking the driver jumper block at the rear of the drive, and seeing if it,s connecting as a master or slave drive, if it,s not being recognised by the system. if the hard-drive jumper ( Small plastic Block ) On the back of the drive is set as Slave, set the CD Drive as Master, or Vice-Versa.

Dimension 4600 cd/dvd drives not responding

Try uninstalling them in devive manager then rebooting and see
if they are reinstalled automaticaly as drivers should be in xp already.

Just right click on them and select uninstall.

If that doesnt work then try update drivers and let xp search online for them.

Failing that then try changing the cable thats attatched to the motherboard.

Hope that helps? :)
