Dvd Windows media can not detect a dvd in drive on my acer laptop!

You will need a program to run DVD's on your computer.
If you have Windows the easiest choice would be Windows Media Player
Navigate to Control Panel and type in "Default" run down the list and select "Windows Media Player"
When I insert a DVD in my Acer I automatically get a menu come up
(Windows 10) giving me options of what I want to do with the DVD including "Play" .......Duh !!

Earlier OS I used to have to go to Computer and the DVD drive should be visible - right click on it and see if "Autoplay " comes up

Remove HDD, test, replace if necessary.

Try checking in the bios if your cd/dvd is detected there. Try also removing the cd/dvd drive from the laptop and putting back in again. If it still not detected in the bios, have it replaced.

You need to go into your BIOS and see if the computer is recognizing that you have a hard drive installed. Sometimes the bios forgets and needs to find it prior to the install.
Look in your manual for the procedure to get into your bios....most of the time, it is tapping the delete key right after power up. Be careful not to change any of the settings if you don't know what you are doing or you can make your laptop into an expensive door stop.

If your laptop won't detect DVD drive try and check connection first. Turn your laptop upside down and remove three maybe four screw (deepens on laptop) directly over a DVD drive and pull drive out. Blow some compressed air inside of laptop and check for anything abnormal on drive itself. Then put it back in and check if it works. If not it's either bad DVD drive or bad motherboard. I do have the same problem, my laptop doesnt detects the DVD writer, checked with the acer support, asked me to check the motherboard and may need to change that.

Try to use another DVD. you told you tried you old DVD from your toshiba. maybe is not compatible.. try in another.. then use your DVD in another laptop if the same from problem.check your board and DVD connection...if this under warranty bring to warranty..

if in Bios also can not detect this is hardware problem...

try shutdown the laptop and then boot it, on the booting process go to the bios setup menu check if the dvd drives is enable or detecting on the on.

Try removing the dvd drive with the laptop off, replace the dvd drive and try to boot it again.
