PC freezing up

I can view a video on windows media player and then it just freezes up and won't do anything. I have installed a new hard drive and I have 2 gigs of ram. I'm wondering if the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 XT is not quit enough to view videos and edit the one that I have made with my new hard drive camera. Can you suggest a economical card that will do what I would like to do?

Hi,
you will have to try safe mode (f8 when booting just after bios posts or hold left shift key while system boots untill sign on screen appears)or a different card as that one as well as most high end cards won't have windows 2003 server support. In some cases the vista driver can work(note 32 vs 64 bit as it applies). It would probably work if you used a standard VGA driver as an alternate with the card in question.

hope this helps

Hi dawn120
You need a powerfull machine to obtain full satisfying results .
The output is best directed to a hard drive folder and then burned to DVD later. Import the result into a video editor and trim and edit as needed.
Don't mess with the computer while copying. Turned off screen savers and updates to prevent disruption.

Try this reformat your pc again without using your video card, after installing Operating System (XP) instelled your motherboard software and then shut down your pc. Put the video card in its place and power on your pc, click add new program as it may pop-up after it detect your new hardware.Installed the video card software and restart your PC.

Computer freezes up

Ok so i'm going to probably get flamed for my suggestion here, but bear with me.

  1. Take out the new fx5200 video graphics card and reboot the computer. If the freezing stops, then the card itself is most likely faulty or incompatable with your particular PC, or may also simply have a fault in it.
  2. Computers that ran fine before a new piece of hardware/software was installed, can nearly always be blamed on the new device or program. Simple solution is to remove the last thing you added and work backwards from there.
  3. If the freezing still happens, i suggest that you could also have a faulty ram stick, and you can test these with a RAM testing program, but they don't always show errors the first time you run them, so it may take several test runs to show the problem.
  4. An easy solution ( if you think you may have a faulty ram stick or Dimm slot, you can try removing the stick/s from the Dimm slots 1 by 1 until the problem stops, this can mean you have either a bad slot or bad ram stick, either way you should be able to work out what the problem is fairly easily.
  5. The only other problem i know of that causes long freezes or pauses, is not enough ram - or what is called missmatched ram.

You should try to gradually disable hardware acceleration from your graphic card.

My computer freezes

You could try with reinstalling the drivers for the graphic card. Another problem could be that you don't have all the codecs needed (But it doesn't usually freeze windows, only the software). Try downloading a codec pack from the following site: http://free-codecs.com/Codec_Packs.htm
