Question about Goodman CKL30AR30 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

My son has a Goodman Manufacturer Corp Heat Pump/air conditioner. Forced air I believe. The air conditioner quit. A repairman indicated that in order to replace the air conditioner the furnace will have to be replaced also. The air conditioner unit outside is Model No. CPE30-1-AB. Any thoughts?

I don't see any reason to change the furnace unless it's an air handler and not a furnace with a coil on top or bottom. And then, the only reason to change the inside unit when you change the outside unit is because it's a R-22 system and your going back with a 410A system. They just discontinued R-22 equipment this year and not a lot are still available. But even if that's the case, the only thing they should have to replace is the coil and maybe the copper line set. That's all I can think of. Hope this helps!

That is a 36000 btu inside unit.
That is a 24000 btu heat pump.
The heat pump is undersized and that will never work out.

3 year-old Goodman compressor/heat pump terribly loud @ start

Without being there to see it and have only your description in front of me, it sounds like the fan blade could be out of balance.......but it sounds more like a loose fan blade hub. Most Goodman units offer a minimum 5 year parts warranty. The Labor warranty is questionable, but the installing contractor or the Goodman Distributor should be able to give you that information. Of course this would cover manufacturer problems and not physical damage. As far as a history of this problem with Goodman..........I've seen it with every brand. If there is a problem getting it under warranty, you might be able to purchase the blade yourself. Before replacing the fan blade, I recommend disconnecting the motor wires from the contactor, tape off the ends and remember exactly where they were attached.....then start the unit to see if the noise is still evident, if so, it's probably your compressor. I recommend a certified repairman....not the one that quoted you $800.00. If you hear only the compressor start up and not the loud noise you are discribing, then try replacing the blade first.

I hope you find this information to be very helpful to you. :-)

I have a goodman ac/heat pump....worked fine last season...now only blows cold air, even in heat setting....help! thanx

Heat Pumps are not famous for being fast heaters. Give it some time to act. Is yours extracting heat from the air or from a water source. If from the outside air, consideration must be given to the temp of the outside air. It takes longer to warm as the temp outside drops.

Yours could be a different problem of course, but let it have a chance to work before you call the repairman.

Goodman 3.5 heat pump

Does the breaker blow when you turn it on? If it does then the compressor is certainly shot. I would spend a couple of bucks and get a second opinion. As far as price $1500. is a pretty good deal for a new condensor.
