Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

Open Question

TI-83 plus screen display looks like it's going bad. Some pixels display sporadically (i.e., sometimes they work and sometimes they don't). Is this fixable or do I need to buy a new calculator?

Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.

That means that you know your calc crashed. This can be caused by taking out the batteries durring running time, happened just randomly. Well nothing to fear just press clear and it should go away but if it stays on that screen you have problems and is best to try some of these methods. Take out all the bateries and press and hold the on button for 30 seconds. Put the batteries back in and it should have reset. Warning you should archive everything incase this happens. To archive go to 2nd mem and hit enter to put a astrick next to the app (meaning archived)

SOURCE: Find the antilog on the TI-84 Plus for finding pH in chemistry problems

I'm not specifically familiar with the TI83 or TI84 but I've used a lot of TI calculators in my time, so I'll give it a try. If your trying to find the antilog of a number in base 10 enter the number and hit the (10 to the X) button. If you're trying to find the antilog of a number in in base e (natural log), enter the number and hit the (e to the X) button.

If the screen is not busted, adjust the contrast without going all the way to totally dark or to totally blank. Calculators do occasionally become unusable (old age, mishandling).

There's a blank bar that runs horizontal in the middle of my TI-84 plus that's about 16 pixels wide(high?). It's the same color as when the device is turned off. I've tried a memory reset and no results....

SPLIT SCREEN.

It sounds as if you might have split screen mode on. I've got a TI-83 as well as a TI-89 Titanium, both offer a split screen mode. The latter allows for choosing which applications are displayed on each half screen. I am presuming that you may have accidentally put your TI-84 in this mode.

So, if it is a split screen deal then all you have to do is go to the mode screen, find the option for switching from split screen to full screen, and switch it back to full.

I hope that helps. Give us your results!

Adios

Ti-83 plus silver edition. calc won't turn on.

Hello,
Well, if screen shows the RAM CLEARED message, that means your calculator is working. Just press the [CLEAR] key, message will be erased and you are ready to crunch numbers.

Hope it helps.

e0df163.jpg does it look something like the example I gave? Anyways, I don't think that it can be fixed. and you can either:
A.) have the screen fixed (approx. $100)
B.) buy a new calculator (approx. $85)
( the monetary figures are approxamate and should not be taken literally, the $85 is at least what I last saw one for @ a Wal-Mart)

Try replacing both the AAA batteries and the back-up batteries. This should probably fix the problem.

Dead Pixels?

I've heard that if you press on the dead pixels with your finger for a few seconds, sometimes they go away. I've also heard if you get a damp cloth, turn the screen off, press it on the dead pixels, turn the thing on, and remove the cloth, they might also go away.

Random characters lines and pixels

I've had a similar problem in the past with my TI-86. It still happens sometimes when I don't use it for a while. To fix it, all I did was set the screen to its darkest setting and left it on for 10 minutes (keep it from turning itself off, by pushing buttons every few minutes.) It works great, and the calculator is fine unless you leave it unused for a month or so. A similar solution may work for you.
