Nvidia GEforce 8600gt 1gb compatible problem?

this is my video card

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=GEN-6803
here is my psu

And here is my problem, I install the video card, everything powers up, including the video card, the fan comes on, the HDD and cpu fans kick on. Mouse and Keyboard never power up, so i'm not sure if the comp is locking up on the bios screen, or what? but, the monitor stays blank, the light never changes, just stays in "sleep" mode. I have tried 2 different monitors and 2 different computers. Also I am using a 512 pci-e video card now and everythings works just fine when I reequip this video card. Main concern is "Is this video card compatible, if so, then my assumption of a faulty card is correct", Unless someone has any other advice that I am completely open to, and/or suggestions. This is my motherboard info.

1 more question, can I use this instead of the normal 4pin connector that the psu provides, and convert a 6pin 12v connector to a 4pin connector and connect it to the motherboard without frying anything?

I have the same problem, But I am running windows Vista Home basic and everything boots up just fine but I still get a blank screen. I am trying to install a GeForce 8600GT 1GB Vid card. I can the computer boots up perfect, I can even here the sounds when it boots into windows. Nothing locks up. Just a blank screen when all is done.

I have the same problem with the XFX Geforce 8600GT 1GB. I bought a new PSU because I thought that is the problem: 430 Watts.
The fan is running, the computer boots, but the screen stays black.

I have this problem and they told me to buy a 400 watt power supply which I didn't. I knew that wasn't problem as mentioned.

    Proved otherwise.

I'm going to get another card and never buy XFX again and refer people to a different company.

You are looking for a basic PCI card. Just confirm that it is compatible with your OS.

If you mean Backwards Compatible? This refers to PCI Express versions. Meaning a version 1 card will work on a newer version like 2 or 3, as long as form factors are compatible. Most PC hardware is designed to this way. Sadly you don't need to worry about this.

Not enough audio in some noisy conditions

Get powered, external speakers. Connect them to either the variable audio out, or the headphone connection. A decent set of computer speakers should do nicely.

Hi lokarpit,

I've got good news for you! Your Presario's motherboard only supports Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards, and your GeForce 8600 GT is a PCI Express x16 graphics card.

However, I'm a bit concerned about the graphics card being 1gb? Both Nvidia's 8600GT and 8600GTS came out with only 256mb GDDR3 memory on them. Are you sure you have the right card?

But, if you have one with 1gb, the motherboard won't care, it's the graphics card that actually, will either work all 1gb, or only the 256mb if it's been changed.

Good Luck to you, and my answer is as long as it's a PCI Express X16 card, Yes, GO FOR IT!

Don't forget the leave a rating based on my solution.
