Question about Garden

1 Answer

Will not start. I think it's a problem with the carburetor but don't know where it is and can't find it in the manual.

Do this. get a can of starter fluid and a helper. spray some starter fluid into the air filter and start it. have your friend keep spraying the starter fluid to keep it running til the problem clears and it runs on its own. If this doesn't do it, that carb will have to be rebuilt. J.

Don't know the correct choke switch position up or down to start

Remove the air filter cover and filter, look at the front of the carburetor and move the choke lever until the butterfly in the front of the carburetor closes, that is the start position.

Where does the long (30 inch) vacuum hose from the Air cleaner hook on?

You should be able to hear a sucking sound from where the line is supposed to go. Probably on the base of the carby. You can spray a little aero start around where you think the leak might be ie: carby. the aero start will be sucked into the open vacume port & the revs of the motor will change. Sorry I don't know exactly where it goes.

Starting problems

I know you don't want to hear it, but look to the carburetor,. the fuel is **** these days.. let it sit a while and wahm! -- Remove the carburetor and soak it in carburetor cleaner,. blow it out with air nozzle if available,. work the cleaner if if possible... you might otherwise be able to use your own wind if no compressor is available?
check your fuel filter as well,. best to replace for a couple bucks...

I can't get my mower to crank. To me, the spark plug wire looks a little corroded, but since my Owner's Manual has VERY little info and I've never worked on a mower before, I don't know,...

Have you been using old gas or did you let it set the winter with old gas in it. Today's ethanol additive in our gas causes the fuel to go bad after about a month. Bad gas may not let it start or make it hard to start. Letting it set over the winter can cause corrosion in the carburetor or deterioration of carburetor components.

To check if the spark plug is working, remove the sparkplug and ground it to the engine while turning over the engine, if you see a good blue spark your problem is elsewhere, like the carburetor (single most common cause of engine start problems).

What is the make of your mower? Is it a push or rider? What is the make and horsepower of the engine? What is the model number of the engine?

I hope I am able to help.

Problem: How to start the mower (Ariens A173K22). The mower sat all winter. I have gassed it up and checked the oil. Pulled the cord. Nothing happens. I bought the mower new in the fall and used it...

For initial start up, I suggest removing the air filter off of the intake to the carburetor. Then get an aerosol spray can of carburetor/choke cleaner at auto parts store or Walmart. Your next step is to open the choke and the throttle of the mower and spray a couple shots into the carburetor throat. Then, choke the carburetor and immediately pull the starter cord.If it fails to attempt to run, repeat the process. I would get your manual, but I need the serial number off of the mower. You provided the model number, try to find the serial number and input that info here to download a manual. I think you can order a printed one from here as well.

Motorcycle can´t reach more than 20/30 km/h

Although I'm not sure about the carburetors, but you should be able to find out by following these steps.
Unscrew the spark plug cap/s and look check to see the condition of the lead. If its bad, cut the end and rescrew the plug cap. Check all the wires and connections going to the ignition coil and make sure they have good connections and no burns or cracks in the coil case. Start the bike and see if you can see any sparks or flames coming from the coil or from the wires or leads. if so replace them. If none of this seems to be the problem, i'm guessing this mean its something to do with the carburetor. Also i'd strongly advice getting a Haynes Manual for your bike, their excellent! Hope this helps.
