Plugged in but not charging

several ways to check if it is the charger or the computer, most likely it is the computer. there are "pins" in the charger assembly that OFTEN break or get damaged over time, this is common with just about every laptop on the market,(notice i said just about) you can have it repaired at cost (to you that is), best thing to do to prevent this is keep the computer stationary while charging and try not to stress the cord/jack.if the charger is the issue just go grab another, you can fix both the issues yourself if you are technically inclined-- i can help... good luck questions? just ask

Laptop not charging

It sounds like one of three things:

1. Battery itself no longer functions
2. Your Asus Laptop Charger has inadequate amperage
3. The motherboard is defective (most likely).

If you have another battery, or a friend with the same battery, you can try that first (and someone else's laptop charger).

If the problem is the motherboard, you can try to have it repaired but I don't trust many companies to do this kind of work. I outsource my motherboard jobs to a company called Laptop Rescue (http://www.laptoprescue.com/laptop-repair-2/). Coincidentally, they also sell laptop chargers in case that's the problem. Hopefully it's just a charger or battery issue and not a motherboard.

If you can confirm your laptop charger is dead, just purchase a new one:

My motherboard will boot but CMOS will not hold the settings

Hi,
This problem is usually caused by a dead or damaged CMOS battery which is a flat, chrome battery about 2 thirds of an inch in diameter and located on the motherboard.
The battery powers the memory which stores your CMOS settings and devices installed such as hard drives.
Replacing this battery should solve your problem.

Best wishes,
Graeme
