Question about Heating & Cooling

Carrier A/C unit not cooling..but freezing refrigerant tube.

I have a Carrier furnace and A/C unit. Model # CD5BXA06000AAAA. A few days ago I noticed a puddle of water on the floor at the base of the A/C unit. The refrigerant tube was condensing and freezing over (both inside and outside). When the unit is off, I hear what I think is large ice blocks dropping inside the unit. Set on 'AUTO' it no longer turns on and off automatically. Water does drip from the condensate drainpipe, although i dont think as much since i have noticed this problem. Cold air is coming from vents but not cooling the house (3200 sq ft). Any suggestions?

If the fan isnt running or you dont get enough return air (on the furnace) the coil will freeze up or if you have it set too low it will freeze up overnight, make sure your filters are clean, and that you dont have any return vents (air sucking in) covered with rugs and whatnot. If you have animals, the coil (on top of the furnace) could be clogged with hair, even though you change your filters it still gets clogged with hair and must be cleaned. if your coil was froze up you need to make sure it is completely thawed out, run the fan in the on setting with the a/c off until you dont see or hear any more water then turn it on again. and finially make sure when the furnace goes off (thermostat clicks and is satisfied) the outdoor condenser goes off as well the contactor could have been stuck in the on position. if you cant fix it call someone who can when your coil freezez up it can cause slugging in your compressor (liquid entering the compressor) which will destroy it !!!!!!!!!!!

FRS26R4CB0-Freezer not freezing and Fridge not getting Cool

Hi Candi,

I don't know this model but most friges are the same,
Check on the bottom back, there should be a radiator with a small fan
installed.

If the fan is not working this maybe your problem,
It is not colling the gas.

You also may have a gas leak or the gas compressor is not working
or starting to work because of a faulty capcacitor.

The outside unit of my Carrier Air Conditioner/Model # 38TG030300 is freezing up the line going to the unit inside.

Is it freezing up at a drier or just a section of tubing? More info would be good. If the line is frosting up all the way back from the indoor to the out door coil, and I guess that we are talking about the suction line, the larger of the two. My guess it either the stat. is set to low below 72 degrees and or the indoor coil is dirty or the filter is. Clean the indoor coil be careful to not get water else where such as into the furnace take appropriate steps to prevent it. All AC units have to have 400 cfm of air flow for each ton of cooling if the do not have this they will freeze up, vents closed off will do the same as a dirty coil.

I have Carrier Heat pump model # 25HBA. It was installed 3 years ago. I have had problems with it several times. This time, it is freezing up on the outside unit. My electric bills have sky rocketed. What...

The cooling coils are freezing because the gas (coolant) in the system may need replenishing or a small leak in the system. Something you can check yourself, is whether or not the foam insulation on the refrigerant tubing coming out of the unit is still intact. If not, that tubing is probably freezing too.
The other possibilities will need to be check by a qualified service technician.

AC Fan doesn't blow cold air, frozen coil noticed outside, resetting power resolves temporarily

You need to call a reputable service technician.  The freezing up usually is associated with a low refrigerant charge or low air flow.  Check your return air filter and replace as needed.
