Re: off and on
Radar detectors will not work behind heat reflective glass. Note this
is different to heated glass found in Fords etc which are fine. The
Heat reflective glass as found in most Renaults, Some Peugeots,
Citroens etc will effect any gps device also as it inhibits the signal
sent to the satellite. In this instance a Re-Ratiating or external
antenna is required and can be fitted near the dotted area around the
rear view mirror.
I'll also see if there is a manual available for this model and post it here.

The road your driving on may have the drive by wireless system in the road and your detctor picks up it's driving signal. the other answer is can you take it anywher that it's not going off all the time ( a different road) if it's going off no matter where you take it it's malfunctioning and if it's still under wrrentee take it back. seems like you paidalotof money for it but it too cheap to fix.
Using the manual, locate the position of the LASER detector and make sure that it is HIGH ENOUGH ABOVE THE DASHBOARD that is has a good "view" down the road so that there is a CLEAR line of sight to the laser gun.
Remember that if you see an officer with a laser gun, he may not have it on, and even if he does, the pattern of invisible light from the laser is not very wide so he could be pointing it at the car next to you and your radar detector may not "see" any of the laser from the officer.
I dont know of any radar detectors that need to be calibrated. To calibrate the radar, you would need a source of RF energy like a radar gun and a ton of specialized equipment.
Just turn it on, place it up high enough on the windshield or dash so that it has a clear "view" of the road. Suction mounts on windshields get the detector higher and it offers you a better view and an earlier warning as it can "see" over the hill better.
