I have an 03 Chev malibu. I just put a new battery in it. She won't start without a boost.runs fine afterwards.if I let her sit for a bit I will need a boost again..please help

New battery could be faulty or alternator not working.
If nothing happens when you turn the key,to check battery to determine its state of charge. Many starters won't do a thing unless there is at least 10 volts available from the battery. A low battery does not necessarily mean the battery is the problem, though. The battery may have been run down by prolonged cranking while trying to start the engine. Or, the battery's low state of charge may be the result of a charging system problem. Either way, the battery needs to be recharged and tested. If the battery is low, the next logical step might be to try starting the engine with another battery or a charger. If the engine cranks normally and roars to life, you can assume the problem was a dead battery, or a charging problem that allowed the battery to run down. If the battery accepts a charge and tests okay, checking the output of the charging system should help you identify any problems there.

When I put my into an adapter for charging it does not light up or show me when it is done charging. How will I know when it is fully charged?

Is the charger actually working and providing a current to go into your GPS? If you operate the unit without the adapter the battery indicator should reflect a low state and then change when you plug in the adapter. If it still stays low after plugging in adapter, either the adapter is no good or the battery will no longer take a charge.

Gps shuts off regularly

From what I've experienced, repeated restarting, and frequent shut downs, can be traced back to a defective power cord, and/or a low battery state. Garmins operate best with a full battery charge, regardless their connection to external power.
If you can get it to connect to your computer, and can see it as a device with removable storage, right clicking on it's icon, and select "properties" to show you the battery-charge state detected.
Mine won't charge when connected to the computer for some reason, and won't boot even if left for a few hours, but if I connect it to a dedicated usb charger, (the kind that plugs into an A/C outlet with a USB port) it will begin to charge. After fully charging it returns to normal operational state. If it still can't charge it may need a new battery...

I have charged my batteries for about 4 hrs and inserted into camera but after few minutes it indicates low battery signal

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

DOES THE tOMTOM via NEED TO BE CHARGED BEFORE USE?

I would read the manual if it doesn't state it in it you should not it should be a lithium battery and if it is it wont hurt to charge it again they should be capable of running all the time charged so if you can run it all the time it won't hurt to charge it before hand.

MESSAGE STATES THAT BATTERY IS LOW, AND KEEPS SHUTTING OFF. BATTERY SHOWN ON SCREEN AS DEAD.

plug it in to your computer via the usb cable for a few hours, the car and home chargers are not recommended for the initial charge as there only a trickle charge...if it still hasn't charged up using the usb cable, there is probably a problem with the usb port(charging port)

let me know how you make out after charging it via the usb cable that was supplied with the unit.

FROZEN SCREEN

By David707,
Since posting ma last re: Screen Freezing on external charge; I did manage to get the system back to some normality by pressing the Reset button located underneath the GPS Antenna flap. However this is likely to delete personally stored data on the system.
I should also state that the same problem occurs when I connect the 610 t my PC via the USB connection (another way to externally charge the battery).
A more satisfactory answer required though.
