For that you need windows disk with I386 folders burnt on disk then you can boot computer with that disk. If you have recovery disk or windows disk insert that disk into cd/dvd rom then when you pwoer up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALT+F2 key to enter in bios then go to boot menu and set first boot device as cd/dvd rom then save settings and restart compute then it will boot with that disk . then follow the procedure. If you haven't disk of windows then you can buy it from nearest computer shop or online it is very useful for computer life you can fix and issue with operating system files issue even you can install new windows with it.If you have ISO image of windows burn it to disk then it is bootable disk . Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

windows xp and vista are self starting disks, you do not need any startu pdisks if you use these. you need to enter bios settings and change boot settings to selelct as primary boot your cd-rom and this will solve you rproblem.

You can download any/all the Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers. Use this link :-

How to reformat my nc6000 using my os cd?

The NC6000 sometimes has trouble booting to anything other than the primary hard drive once a valid OS has been installed. If you need to reinstall by booting it USB or to a CD/DVD; this works for me as a last resort. (Especially USB which it officially isn't supposed to be able to do.)

Insert the bootable media. Shut the laptop down. Remove the hard drive - but leave it disconnected in the bay. Start the machine, let it detect the bootable device, then hot-plug the hard drive. There is some timing involved, but it works.

I loaded several NC6000 machines running Windows 2000 to Linux and XP this way.

You should put the drive back in the external caddy, delete the format, partition the drive for NTFS. format the drive and set as active.

Recovery/Backup Disks

Hello brownxc

It is unlikely that Toshiba will be able to provide you w/ the recovery CD(s) for your computer. If you don't have the recovery CD(s), you can install the OS (operating system) using an OEM Windows ME CD.

You'll need your product key code. Check the bottom of your laptop for a COA (certificate of authenticity) sticker with the product key code for the operating system (if it is currently not bootable). If your system is still bootable, the product key code can be retrieved from the system registry. (We can help you w/ that.)

The downside of not using the Toshiba recovery CD(s) is you won't get the bundled software back. (Software that came pre-installed w/ your computer.) If you use a Windows ME OEM (original equipment manufacturer) CD, you'll only get the OS. So, you'll need to acquire the installations CDs for your applications, etc.

You should be able to download all the drivers, etc. that you'll need for your laptop from Toshiba's web site. Do this b-e-f-o-r-e you begin the recovery or OS installation process so that, as you're prompted for drivers during the course of the installation, you'll be able to provide them at the time.

Please, let us know if we can be of any more assistance.

Good Luck!

BJ
