Question about Akai PT5598HD 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Akai pt5598hdix convergence problem.

The red convergence is way off near the left and right sides of the screen. I can adjust the cross hairs vertically but not horizontally. Near the left and right sides of the screen there is a double image (red and green). It look like you're watching a 3D movie without the glasses. The blue convergence seems to be ok. If you could suggest what parts need to be replaced (and what they look like and where they are) I'm game for some soldering. Thanks for any advice you may have.

We were having "shadowing" on the picture - red and green. I was told that there needed to be a realignment and to follow these steps:

Press Mute, 1,8,3, Add/Erase, Perfect Focus and then try again until I got the picture into focus. May have to repeat several times. I have tried and tried and now the picture is worse. After it goes through the steps to "perfect focus" there comes a white screen and now there is "bowing" at the top and bottom. I am unsure of what "convergence", "convergence IC's" are I have read some of the other problems/solutions and I don't want to do something to make it worse. Thanks for any help you can offer!

How do you access the convergence calibration menu on a RCA P52926 Rear Projection TV

Hello
To access the convergence calibration:

Press the MENU button on the remote.

2. Press 3 to select the Screen option.

3. Press 4 to select the Adjust Projection TV option.

4. Press 4 to select the Advanced Convergence option (the
Advanced Convergence screen appears).

The green pattern is fixed. The red and blue patterns are adjusted to

the green pattern. The Red Convergence appears first by default.

5. Colored cross-hairs show the current adjustment position on the

grid. To move the cross-hairs to a different position, use the

CH+/- buttons on the remote to move the cross-hair highlight up

and down, and the VOL+/- buttons to move it right and left.

6. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the red pattern. Each press of

the arrow button makes a slight adjustment from the center of

the cross-hairs - you can press and hold the desired arrow

button to make a faster adjustment, and then make fine

adjustments with single presses of the arrow button.

7. Press the INFO button to switch to Blue convergence and follow

the steps above to adjust the blue pattern.

8. Press OK to exit. You will be asked if you want to save the
adjustments

Yes Saves adjustments.

No Returns to the Advanced Convergence screen allowing

further adjustments.

How do I adjust the convergence properties on an RCA rear projection tv?

Normally on the RCA rear projection TV's you would bring up your menu and choose the Setup menu, then press OK on the remote. That menu would then have Convergence as a choice. Once that was chosen the next menu would give you the choice of either letting the TV run it's own Autoconvergence program, or you would select either Red or Blue convergence.

Choosing Red Convergence would bring up a Yellow cross-hair in the middle of the screen. If the Convergence was not correct you would see separate Green and Red cross-hairs. Once they were perfectly aligned you would again see one Yellow cross-hair.

Choosing Blue Convergence would bring up a Blue cross-hair in the center of the screen. If the alignment was out you would see 2 Blue cross-hairs. Using the Up and Down and Left and Right cursor keys you would adjust the alignment until a single solid Blue cross-hair was in the center of the screen.

Red/Orange horizontal lines

it could be that the tv convergence circuit is going bad. One shure way of finding out is to go to the tv feature menu(picture, audio etc.) and select the customer convergence setting, you should get a cross hair pattern(cross in middle of screen). that cross should be white and by aligning the red or blue colors they should move left, right, up or down

Unable to align red crosshairs in horizontal range

No there are no quick fix options for this fault. The convergence amplifiers operate similar to a high power audio amplifier, so if there is an impairment anywhere in the system, it will result in distorted audio, or in the case of television convergence amplifiers, one or more colors won't align. The convergence power pacs need to be replaced and the out of tolerance precision resistors located near the power pacs need to be carefully checked and replaced as necessary. And the power supply fuse links to the power pacs checked and replaced as needed.

It is also possible that there are root faults that cause the amplifiers to go bad which include bad connections or a bad digital control module. This repair is possible for anyone having basic electronics knowledge and soldering skills. After the above repairs are performed it may be necessary to perform the static convergence realignment procedure using the outer cross hairs as you mentioned, and realigning them.

Mitsubishi VS-50501A convergence problem. The image looks like a bow tie and the convergence will not align. This TV only has manual convergence. I already replace the STK391-020 ICs, it has 3 of them....

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.
