Bottom freezer frosted 3"thick

I have an Amana model ARB2217CSL refrigerator with bottom freezer. The freezer is closed but when opened had frosted over everywhere. There is now some ice forming as well. Perhaps the temperature is too cold. If so, how do I turn it down> How do I fix the problem/do I need a repair person...will this hurt my refrigerator????

Either door seal is bad letting air in or it's a defrost problem

SOURCE: Amana bottom freezer/ refrigerator

Geezer, sounds like a defrost issue. I usually find the bi-metal to be the culprit on this model. Check out the pic. You will have to remove the back panel in the freezer and defrost the evaporator. Remove the ice maker if there is one. The back cover has 4 quarter inch screws. remove those. The air vent has 2 plastic clips one each side and one on the bottom, push in and pull the grill off. The thermistor cover has a slot for a flat blade screw driver, push in and pull the cover off. The thermistor will now slide behind the back panel. Check the bi-metal for buldging. As long as the evaporator fan is working, it's probably a defrost problem.

SOURCE: Frost forms on top of food in my freezer

This excess frosting can be caused by leaky door gaskets, frequent door opening, dispenser door not closing good, anywhere air can get in. Gaskets should hold a dollar bill sung all the way around both doors.

I have this problem as well, only nobody is leaving anything open. The defroster is defective of these things and the duct between the fridge and freezer gets frozen over and the cold air can't get in the fridge, so the freezer keeps working until it's blue in the face.

Back wall frosting up

Sorry to hear about your problem.

Sounds like you have a defrost issue. Hence your unit is not defrosting. All of this apply's if your freezer side has ice/frost on it. And you said you had frost on the back wall, you may notice the refrigerator getting warmer.

Here is a list of some things that can go wrong.
1. Defective heat coil
2. Defective defrost timer
3. Defective defrost sensor
4. Defective Fan

You should call a service company to resolve your issue.

Since I tried to help you, Please help me and Rate/Vote on the response. Thanks

How do i reverse the refrigerator door of an amana arb2217csl

you canot reverse the handles on this model. There are no predrilled holes or covering plugs on the opposite side. The model number ends in an "l" signifying left hinges. The companion model ends in an "r" with hinges on the right. These fridges were designed so you could purchase them as a pair seting them side by side.

Bottom freezer frosted

if you have thick frost on the back wall of your freezer, then your unit is not defrosting. it will be due to a faulty defrost heater, a bad bimetal thermostat, or a bad defrost control.

Frost forms on top of food in my freezer (top of refrigerator)...even inside sealed bags of items like microwave Stouffer's, etc. Sometimes up to 1/4" thick! No frost on inside of freezer though. ?????

This excess frosting can be caused by leaky door gaskets, frequent door opening, dispenser door not closing good, anywhere air can get in. Gaskets should hold a dollar bill sung all the way around both doors.

Refrig is not cooling

. The most common problem is a bad start relay on the compressor. In rare cases the compressor may be bad. If you are mechanically inclined you can replace the relay yourself for less than 50 dollars. You will need model and serial number off of the unit and order the part by those numbers. if the compressor is bad you will need to hire a good service company

Amana refrigerator only not working

Few questions first. 1.  What is the entire model # on the sticker inside the fridge section?  2.  Is the fan in the freezer running?  3.  Is there a thick frost build up on the back panel in the freezer (look at the bottom half for a side by side)?
