Question about ASUS Laptop

1 Answer

Laptop Hickups Laptop Hiccups My Asus X83vb-x2, screen has started to Hickup (shift slightly upwards then back every 2-3 seconds). it's not under warrenty, and seems to be working fine in every other way. this "hiccup" happens even at the Bios screen. so i'm pretty sure that rules out drivers. The screen doesn't seem to have a "ribbon" cable, but a standard muti Pin (looks like 16) tiny connector plug, with thick wrapped wires. i unpluged this from the mother board and replugged it. No luck. i also unseated the Graphics card (GPU) and reseated it. NO luck. question, is this something i can fix myself? or do i need to replace something? should i attempt to unplug/re-secure the screen connections inside the screen? or should i just take it to the shop? i have a service plan but it costs $75.00 per incident. should i pay this $75.00 or will it be less expensive to fix this myself, or at a repair shop? any and all imput GREATLY appreciated. thanks

Actually, it was even simpler. Turns out it was the Heat Sink, I used Thermal Past, and on these laptops you must use a Thermal PAD, to bridge the gap. Sent Laptop in for Repair, and this was the results.
    Thanks for your help.

Your LCD panel is bad, replacing yourself will cost over $100 depending on the quality of the replacement panel.

Have you tried a System Restore? If you connect a External Monitor is there any change? Is the HDD LED blinking? Can you boot to Safe Mode? What preceded this issue?

Lines at bottom of screen on asus x83v

Your lcd screen is going bad or your video card inside the computer is bad. To isolate the problem Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the laptop. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok then your video card is good and the lcd screen on your laptop is bad. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same lines as your lcd screen, then your video card inside the computer is bad.

The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Dim green light on power supply blinking

If the Power supply LED dims and flickers its either your motherboard circuit has been cut or there is a short in the laptop. The AC adapter is not the cause.

Try this:
Remove the battery, then press power button to drain all the current, then re-install battery and plug to adapter.

If that doesn't work, then it's most likely the motherboard.

Laptop powers up but a blank screen shows with two green lights showing up top whats the problem

PLug the laptop into an external monitor to see if you get video to the external screen.  You should have a vga port on your laptop, connect it to the laptop and then turn it on.  If you see video the onboard video card on the laptop is fine and most likely you have a bad lcd.  On the other hand if by "powers up and then goes to a blank screen" you mean its posting you see the asus splash screen and instaed of going into windows you see a blank screen.  in that case you mos likely have a bad hard drive or corrupt operating system.  You can test the hard drive by downloading dft and booting from that cd.  here is a link to dft http://www.hitachigst.com/support/downloads/#DFT

My -ASUS X83VB-X2 win7 64- was working perfect but suddenly 3 very bad things happened: 1) The web cam is not working any more, did disapear and can not even be found in the Devices Admin., 2) The...

I agree, it is most likely a bad driver. When you go into the device manager, do you see any exclamation marks in yellow triangles? That would indicate a hardware problem. If you go into the offending hardware component, there should be a button that says whether or not the device is working properly and also and update drive button. Try updating the drivers and see if that works. The webcam could be reinstalled using the disk that came with it. The driver may not be Windows 7 compatible so if you tell me the make and model, I could try to get an updated driver for you.

Let me know.

Hello,

Normally there should not be the drivers issue with CD ROM because windows 7 has almost the drivers for hardwares available.
To make sure you can go to device manager and uninstall the ATA channel1 and DVD cd ROM drive drivers after clicking on them.
After rebooting the drivers will be reloaded and reboot the system once more.

If then also the issue is not resolved try with soft eject (right click on drive icon and click eject). If then also the issue persists then the issue is with hardware.

Thanks
