Question about LaCie Design by F. A. Porsche 160 GB Hard Drive
When I plug and turn ON my hard drive, my computer is asking me suddenly to make sure there is a hard drive into the lacie -- and show me this notification (see the line up there) ?? Do you have any clue about this ? I tried to connect my drive to a MAC and the unit doesnt show up on the desk either !! Is the drive completely out ? Do I have lost all my data ??????
Thsk for feed back Jon
If you external hdd do not show on other computers, usually it meant that power supply on these casings die... but in this particular case it is possible that power supplied by usb port is insufficient to support data transfer. connect recommended power supply (on the back of this particular model you have usb plug and power plug, power supply is/was sold separately) usually hdd inside is still fine and retain data.
if this did not solve your problem, i would suggest purchase little powered universal hdd craddle, they cost about $15 to $25, remove, hdd from casing and connect to the craddle. data should be then accessible directly from your usb port.
as long as hdd is turning, data is accessible and recoverable, even if disk was wiped off.
