Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

The problem with my Optimus STA-300 is very strange. It only retains the stored settings if the source is AM.If any other source is selected(FM,tape,phono,CD/Aux), it looses data when powered down.Does anyone have a service manual or schematics for this receiver?I opened the unit, but could not identify a battery or special capacitor for the memory circuit.

The unit should store FM stored settings without a battery backup. As long as it is plugged in, the memory for the FM side of the circuit board should do the same thing, logically, as the AM mode side of things.

troubleshooting document, but doesn't include symptoms of Source being selected or not selected with AM vs. FM, respectively.

I think the board is defective.

The manual is no longer available for this model.

I used to work for radio shack in the 1990s and these fax back documents look familiar. But, I think that this Optimus Receiver is not repairable anymore, even by the Radio Shack service centers.

Sorry about that.

I suggest trying the RadioShack DOT Com website first and do a search for the STA-2160. They should have it, as they have many of their devices' manuals on the RadioShack website. Good luck.

I need to know what model of a Motorola DVR is compatible with my receiver. What model can connect DIRECTLY from it's audio output to the audio input of my STA-795 Optimus Digital receiver (not through the...

Do you really have TV Audio OUT to a DVD (last sentence)?

Most DVR's have digital and analog audio outputs. Since every device they are intended to feed would have its own volume control a DVR output volume control might be redundant. Treat a DVR like any other audio device. Connect it to any available input on the receiver EXCEPT PHONO.

If you run the audio from the DVR (and EVERY video source) directly to the STA-795 you can bypass the TV and its questionable audio electronics (yuk). You can split the analog output of the DVR with y-cables and run it from the DVR to TO the TV for casual viewing and listening through the TV sound system (news, Oprah, etc).

I need a service manual for my STA 795.

I've tried unsuccessfully to find a copy you can download. The part number for the service manual is MS3102101. You can try your local RS store or call 1-800-843-7422 to see if you can order a copy.

Mt optimus sta-795 will not hold the station presets for more than a day. I don't see where there is a cms battery of some sort to replace. Any ideas?

You probably need to replace the memory capacitor. .047f 5v
