Open Question

Digital timer to control a solar flood light.

I have tried to use a Frontier tm-619 timer to control the time a flood light comes on in a solar powered and regulated system.
Flood light similar to this:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Solar-Powered-Flood-Shed-Light-28-Bright-White-LEDs-/330452671266?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Home_Outdoor_Lighting&hash=item4cf0839b22
The light works great when wired directly in original configuration.

Ok here is what I have done:
My current timer connections are:

1. white battery wire (+)
2. black battery wire (-) and black wire from the led light
3. Bridging wire back to 1.
4.
5. white wire to the light

When the MANUAL button is pushed to select the ON and and the AUTO positions the red LED indicator on the LHS of the timer face comes ON but not the flood light.

I have entered the time in 24hr notation which works correctly , I have entered the time for the 1.ON and 1.OFF times whilst the unit is in the OFF position and the ON setting but to no advantage.
The flood light does not operate when within the time slot in either the ON or AUTO setting.

More random ideas.

I tried bridging a few of the terminals on the timer. Here are the results, perhaps they might mean something ?? to some one:

1. MANUAL switch set to ON
1-3 bridged Light works
1-4 bridged Light works
3-4 bridged Nothing
3-5 bridged Light works

MANUAL switch set to OFF
1-3 bridged Light works
1-4 bridged Light works
3-4 bridged Nothing
3-5 bridged Light works

In other words no difference !

This was when the 1.ON and 1.OFF was set well away from the current time. Then again when the 1.ON and 1.OFF settings were either side of the current time (ie. the timer should have activated) NO DIFFERENCE in the result.

Getting really lost here.

OK, some multimeter test results.

1) Timer set either side of current time: Timer should be active.
a) MANUAL set to ON and the LED on the front panel ON.

Red lead to 1. black to 2. - battery output + 6.17V

Terminals tested
3 – 2 0.00V
4 - 2 0.00V
5 - 2 6.17V
3 - 5 1.62V

b) MANUAL set to OFF and the LED on the front panel OFF.

Red lead to 1. Black to 2. - battery output +6.30V

Terminals tested
3 -2 0.00V
4 -2 0.00V
5 -2 6.30V
3 -5 1.74V

2) Timer set so it is outside of current time, ie Timer should be OFF
NO DIFFERENCE to any of the above values in either MANUAL setting

There ! lots of information to make something of, I cann't !!

Cheers,
Neil

Based on what you've written, it should be black to red, white to white, and green to green. If you still have trouble, post a picture so I can have a better look of this photo-cell.
Hope this helps,

Help programing or instructions for indoor timer TM-020 E227659

The only TM 020 timer I show is 230Volt 50 hz Chinese analog-type timer. This timer is not digital.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html#49664
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-set-timers.html

Over past 2 years, I have requested several times that person asking question about TM 020 please include full description of timer buttons and relevant features, and/or post photo of timer on flickr and add link to that photo, so the timer can be clearly identified and possible manual found using timer with same-similar features.

Will solar garden lights set off the parkhurst 400w floodlight

The should not. Motion detectors are not affected by lights other than having sufficient ambient light to the photocell to tell the light that it does not need to come on. I have not seen solar lights that fit that bill, so I would conclude that there would be no effect. Solar garden lights do not affect the flood light that my neighbors have, by the way.

I hope this is helpful to you.

We have the intermatic timer Model EJ351 and when I go to set the timer at the beginning it does not flash. It is when I start from off to on. Mary Ann

Mary Ann:

It appears that it will start flashing when you move from off to on. Here are the directions from the web site.

Gary

Move the control lever to the OFF-CLEAR position for about

20 seconds. The red indicator light will go off and any previous

time settings will be cleared from memory.

Move the control lever to the ON position. The Red indicator

light will start flashing.

Rotate the time dial clockwise at least one click, stopping at

the half hour nearest to the present time.

NOTE: During programming, be careful not to press the

dial while turning it. If you press the dial, you will accidentally

set a wrong time.

Press the dial once to set the present time. The Red indicator

light will go off.

Rotate the time dial clockwise to the first desired ON time.

The Red light will pulse momentarily with each click.

Press the dial once to enter the ON time. The light controlled

by the switch timer will turn ON.

Rotate the time dial clockwise to the desired OFF time.

Press the dial once to enter the OFF time. The light controlled

by the switch timer will turn OFF.

Repeat Steps 5-8 for each additional ON/OFF setting.

Continue to rotate the time dial until the Red indicator light

comes ON and stays ON, indicating that the switch timer is in

AUTOMATIC mode.

OUTSIDE FLOOD LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON FOR 2 DAYS. IS THE SOLAR CELL TIMER BROKEN? HOW DO I TURN LIGHTS OFF?

I cannot find a manual on this timer.

If I was at your house, I would try the following:
1) Read the manual troubleshooting section
2) Check for dirt over the sensor
3) Turn off the circuit breaker to timer/ or unplug from wall
4) Re-power timer and then Re-program timer
5) If these steps don't work, the timer may have gone bad

And lastly, since many people do not have the manual, press it flat in a book for two days, scan it just like you scan a photograph or have Office Depot scan it onto a disk. Load photo of manual onto Imgur or Flikr photo-sharing and then post that link in a fixya question so others can see the manual
