It sounds more like a failing hard drive to me.

As soon as you start your computer, there should be a message at the bottom of the screeen that says "Press f10 for setup utility". Press f10 while you see this message to take you there. Navigate to the Diagnostics menu and select "hard drive self test". This should test your hard drive and if it gives you an error, then you know it needs to be replaced. Hopefully this helps. My compaq presario c700 will not boot and it's saying that there is no bootable device, insert boot disk and press any key, however, i do not have a boot disk

Your Compaq did not detect the hard disk, that is why it is asking for a bootable device such as a boot floppy disk.
Check the BIOS configuration to see if the hard disk is detected, if not then re-seat the hard drive and boot up the Compaq again.
If it still does not boot up, then the hard disk is probably faulty.
To get the Compaq operating again, replace the faulty, install Windows operating system on the new hard drive, plus the Compaq's device drivers and your programs.

Insert a windows disk, boot into setup, and if windows tells you it cannot find any Harddrives, then replace the HDD, and repeat the first step, but with more luck this time around.

Installing XP SP3 pro on my presario C700

Most likely you have a SATA drive which windows is not detecting. Restart the setup and press F6. You will need to use another system to download the SATA drivers and save to a disk. Then when prompted you can insert the disk. You can also upgrade to XP professional which will almost always recognize the SATA drives. Good Luck.

Compaq Presario 5WV270 Has No Oprating System

installing windows 95 on your pc would require you to have a bootable disk (either a floppy or cd)
insert your bootable disk and go to bios settings --> once you start your desktop pc, press Del key
then go to Boot menu and select your frist boot to floppy or cd (wherever your bootable disk is) then exit and save changes.
once your pc boots from the bootable disk goto C:
then make a directory (let's say Win95) --> C:\md win95
then press enter
then goto that directory which you've just created ---> C;\cd win95
then press enter
then copy your windows 95 disk on this directory
once you finished copy, run setup
be sure to remove your bootable disk the next time your pc restarts or change the boot sequence (again in Bios settings) to your harddrive as first boot
hope this helps
