It sounds more like a failing hard drive to me.
As soon as you start your computer, there should be a message at the bottom of the screeen that says "Press f10 for setup utility". Press f10 while you see this message to take you there. Navigate to the Diagnostics menu and select "hard drive self test". This should test your hard drive and if it gives you an error, then you know it needs to be replaced. Hopefully this helps.
