Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lens or CCD adjustments/ master reset, Somethin?!!!

I have a dsc-w30 that had some damage done to the lens. The lens would not extend or retract. It was actually bent out of place (don't ask, it's actually my niece's). So I found someone who sells the lens (CCD) assembly online and ordered it for about $50. I installed the lens assembly and now although it works the image seen through it makes everything look like a "negative". It's got digital vertical lines and the colors are black, white and purple. I was wondering if anyone knew of a CCD adjustment or a master reset to possible bring my image back to specs. The LCD display is fine as I can see old photos from the memory card on it. Thanks for the effort.

Thanks for the offer of the premium package. To be honest I don't really see any solutions for anything on this site to even make me want to pay for someone to tell me to "bang my camera on it's side" as a fix. I have not found anything that even comes close to suggesting that there is an adjustment to the camera other than replacing parts. Help me out!!! Thanks.

By the way the problem has not been solved and I don't know of anyone that has the same problem as myself.

Hey, I appreciate the suggestion. Don't know why I didn't think about it. Anyway, I swapped the CCD's and I got my camera back to taking pictures. Thanks alot. That's the kind of tips I expect to see on a site called FixYa!!!! Good lookin out.

Dsc-w30 don't work and it always appear access what should will i do?

Lens errors (Access Errors on Sony's) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Lens error

I've got the answers...

Problem: Lens error.
Symptom: Lens will not extend upon power up.
Cause: Lens is impeded while trying to extend.
This is usually caused by one of two circumstances. (1) The user dropped the camera while the lens was extended causing a mechanical failure. (2) The lens attempts to extend while in a pouch or pocket without the user's knowledge. This usually happens when the user is carrying the camera with the battery in. When/if the REC button or power button is pressed accidentally, the lens will attempt to extend but can't. This causes the main drive gears to be damaged.

Solution: Replace the main drive gear assembly. This should only be done by a qualified tech.
If you've experienced this you know exactly what I mean. This should clear up any notion that the "Lens Gods" have cursed you. Although this may have appeared to be a mystery, it's always caused by something!

Problem: Lens error.
Symptom: Lens extends, makes a few buzzing noises and retracts, resulting in "lens error" message.
Cause: This is caused by damage to the focus lens often by impact, or sand in the mechanism.
Solution:The focus lens gears either need to be replaced or the assembly completely rebuilt. Again, this should be done by a qualified tech. It's a very delicate process.

Problem: Aperture unit failure
Symptom: images appear to be washed out, over exposed and often have horizontal lines through them.
Cause:The aperture unit is either stuck, damaged or not receiving the proper electrical signal to activate. The result is that the aperture remains open after the picture is taken and CCD is over exposed.
Solution:Completely rebuild the aperture unit, which requires complete lens dis-assembly and rebuild. Again, this should be done by a qualified tech. It's a VERY delicate process.

Hope this helps.

I have a sony dsc-s90. It will work fine for 3 - 5 min. and then a black screen will appear with "turn power off and on again". Once done, it happens again.

Usually a lens sensor. Clean with maybe some compressed air. If you trust your skills you could open the unit and clean cabinet where the lens retracts and extends.

I have a sony cyber t70 camera and have an error code E:61:00 come up on screen and i cannot take a pictue please help me .. what solution can i find for this.. venkatesh

Sony claims that the E:61:00 error means "Difficult to adjust focus Inspect the lens block focus reset sensor". In my experience this means that the gears that extend and retract the lens are somehow jammed. This could easily happen if you hit something with the camera with your lens in extended (working) position.
You should try to:
- power off the camera
- place your thumb on the back of the camera and the fingers a few centimeters from the closed lens
- power on the camera, and with your fingers stop the movement of the lens forcing not to fully extend
- when the lens retracts or stops and then continues to extend, let it go

sometimes this would resolve the issue.
You may want to check this site:
http://www.fewin.com/sony/sony.htm
wich has similar trick for a different model from sony, but the error is the same.
Be careful not to force the lens too hard or you may worsen the issue.
Let me know if this helped, good luck

Sony DSC W30 digital camera, lens unit problem

Hi!
If you're sure you didn't damage the lens flat cable which connect to the motherboard, the focus of the lens unit you bought on ebay doesn't work. You can simply replace the back part (with focus) of the new lens unit with your old one. It requires soldering.

Cybershot camera lens cover closed

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the lens will not open, retract, or extend. WARNING: There is a risk of hardware damage. Do not attempt to manually force the lens in or out. Doing so may damage the camera. NOTE: Because each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check the camera status after completing each step. Ensure the battery is adequately charged or connect the AC power adapter (if applicable). Perform a power reset. If the camera lens is still not operating correctly after completing the troubleshooting steps suggested, service will be required. Hope this helps
