Question about Fisher and Paykel Refrigerators

Fisher and Paykel Fridge/Freezer - Drain Freezing Up

Our Fisher and Paykel Fridge/Freezer (N405T) - the drain at the back of the freezer unit sometimes freezes solid and hence the water cannot escape. Eventually the ice builds up and blocks the hole at the bottom of the condenser unit, and stops the air flowing around the freezer. Result if the back of the freezer stays cold, but the front thaws out. This has now happened three times. First time there was a piece of corn blocking the drain, but the last twice there has been no obvious blockage.

The evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help. Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the back of the freezer. If this repeatedly happens with yours, you may can prevent it by taking a bare copper wire and wrap it around a fin near the heater and put the other end a few inches down the drain. The heat convection may prevent it from freezing.

Find the water drain hole/pipe and clean it thoroughly with a pipe cleaner or other softish flexible rod. That should allow the water to drain away. Make sure back of the unit is clear and clean so water drains and evaporates off properly.

Hi. I have water in the floor by my fridge freezer its starts may be a 3month ago. What are the reasons could be? and how can I repair.

The condesate drain could be blocked. things like peas, corn and mould can do this.
Pour some warm soapy water doun the drain to try and clear it.
The water sould drain out the back of the fridge into an evaporativr drain tray

GE Monogram refrigerator is leaking water on the floor

At some point the freezer got too cold and the drain froze (it is a poor design with a loop in the bottom). Once this freezes it will not thaw for a long time.

Here is what I did:
  • Remove all items from freezer and let it completely thaw
  • Pull unit away from wall to access rear
  • Cut loop off drain line where it hangs in drain pan
  • Place a bare copper wire (#12 will work) through the drain line and wrap it loosely around the heating coil above drain pan
  • Enjoy

Did this 6 months ago and have not had problem since

F&P Active Smart E521TRE Removing freezer back panel

My fridge (E440T but I believe the E522B is similar) had a broken fan wire and i had to pull off the rear panel and re-solder a wire. I created a document for others to follow that shows the rear panel removal if interested at http://www.accentis.com.au/downloads/misc/How I fixed my Fisher and Paykel Fridge Active Smart Fridge.pdf

Thanks to all postings on this site - it really helped a lot.
