Unfortunately Amcor was one of the many companies that put out GPS units, and then never really took care of the updates. Then in January of 2009 Underwriters Laboratory issued a press release stating that Amcor was fraudulently using their symbol on the 3900 as the units were never submitted for testing. UL advised anyone who owned a unit should immediately return it to the the point of purchase. Their website is now shutdown, so you cannot even try and get an update from them. If you search around on the web there are a few hack sites that claim to have updates. They of course do not guarantee in any way that the update will work with your unit.

yes, it is possible to purchase or download updated maps.

it should work fine. the voltage on usb is generally 5 volts.

From absolutely flat,,, most likely NOT, to keep it topped up... yes.

First you have to get the updated software.(igo8 is what i bought)
Look around for on that has the newest maps included It will be cheaper than purchasing separate.(you also will get free updates later when you buy the software.)
hook up gps to comp via usb.(with the software card in of coarse)
go into the flash drive (not sd) using the comp and look fotr a text file called "IGOPATH" and copy it to your desktop and open it.
Change the "Navigate" line under moduals to the exe location on the sd card.
then write it back to gps and reboot gps by the side switch.
You have now updated the armcor3900.

You need to use a different sd card.
And all you do is put MP3s on that card.
Then put card in the gps.

this also can be done with movies too (i think it was an older divx format)

contact Navigator and buy new maps, Maps are consumables and are not free.

Here is a link to the old 3900 manual. I have the new software installed on my 3900 and have been unable to find a manual for it. I sent my unit in for replacement about two months ago and it came back with a 2 GIG card and new software loaded in it. Don't remember where I sent it for repair/replacement but it was NOT to Amcor. They sent me a return authorization via e-mail.
