Try contacting Microsoft and see if they can retrieve your key. If not look into openoffice HTTP://www.openoffice.org a free microsoft office type program, and, much better IMHO.

Step 1:
A recovery disc is a CD provided by a computer manufacturer that will assist the owner in reinstalling Windows and system device drivers in the event of a hard drive failure. If your original Toshiba recovery disc has been misplaced or damaged, it may be difficult to get a replacement disc except through the mail from Toshiba Product Support. There is a free download work around available, however, if waiting for delivery by mail is not convenient.

Find a Windows Setup Disk Find an original setup disk for the version of Windows you need. If your COA is for Windows Vista Home, you must find a Windows Vista Home version setup disc. You can borrow a disc from a friend, or buy a used disc online. There is no source for a free download of Windows. Even though you use a friend's setup disc, you will use your unique COA keycode to activate the Windows installation. b> Reinstall Windows b> Reinstall Windows using an authentic setup disc and your keycode. In some cases, Windows will locate and load drivers for your Toshiba laptop automatically, or at least provide substitute drivers until you can Install the correct drivers. b> Reinstall the Drivers b> Use the flash drive or disk you burned to restore the device drivers to your Toshiba. It is a good idea to start with the Ethernet or wireless adapter so you can connect to the Internet to find more suitable drivers online and activate your copy of Windows. Work through all the driver install packages to restore drivers for Ethernet, wireless, BIOS, sound cards, video cards, optical drives, touchpad functions, keyboard controls and other devices. b> Plan For The Future b> Make an attempt to replace your recovery disc through Toshiba. Otherwise, consider creating a perfect copy or "ghost" copy of your restored operating system and device drivers for future use. Use an external hard drive for this creation, not a partition on your current hard drive.

Windows Installation Disc VS Windows Upgrade Disc -NOT THE SAME-

Having Trouble Booting To Your Windows Upgrade Disc?

...Upgrade discs aren't bootable discs. To repair a windows installation, you must use either a system repair disc or, better yet, a windows installation disc (genuine Retail/OEM discs are pretty much your only option to completely reinstall your windows operating system, unless you own a previous full installation disc of a previously released Windows version (such as XP or Vista), in which case you could install that windows operating system and then upgrade to a newer windows OS like windows 7. however if you ever need to reinstall windows 7, you would either need to reinstall the older windows OS, then upgrade to the newer one.

If that isn't clear, I'll sum it up....

Let's say you bought a computer, that computer had windows xp home edition. Maybe you wanted to upgrade from Windows XP/Windows Vista or Windows 7?
Well in order to switch from Windows XP/Vista to Windows 7, (or even from Windows 7 home premium- to windows7 Pro or Ultimate), then you must either:
A) Buy an upgrade disc and upgrade to the newer desired version.
B) Or, Buy a Retail Copy of the version you want to install. (keep in mind that a retail Windows 7 disc can be used to perform an upgrade rather than to competely wipe the hard disc and perform a clean install (delete partitions, reformat, and perform a new windows installation), if you so choose.

The bottom line is, you cannot Install a fresh clean copy of windows using an upgrade disc. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and Retail Windows Operation System Installation Setup Discs are "Bootable Discs". Windows Upgrade Discs are NOT bootable. (unless one where to "modify that particular disc, which is not legal).

Ezbook lost password wont to wipe computer

Why wipe it? As long as the drive isn't encrypted you can just blank out the password. Download and burn Hiren Boot CD to a disc. Put it in this laptop and make sure boot to CD is first in your boot order in BIOS. Then follow the video.

I lost my installation disc for my acer aspire 7736z-4905 and can i download one for free?

You don't need it, most times it don't work if you are talking about a Recovery Disc.

Look on the bottom of your laptop or inside the battery case for a Certificate of Authentication (COA) Sticker. It will tell you what version of windows you have and it will have a series of 5 letters and numbers (keycode for activation) on it.

Borrow that same version of the operating system disc that is on the COA from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and reinstall windows. When it asks for the Activation Code use the one that is on you COA Sticker. The disk you use has to match your COA Sticker. For example if your COA says Windows 7 Home Premium, you can't use a Windows 7 Home Basic to do the install.

You can always take it to a computer shop to reinstall because as long as the COA is there they can do it and it should not cost more than $60.

Computer was wiped and I am trying to also figure out how to get a boot disc from toshiba. it was never with the computer to begin with.

you don't need a start up disk from toshiba. A regular Windows instalation CD/DVD is enough. If your computer was wiped, there's a chance the Toshiba startup disk will not start either.
If you use an OEM version of your Windows (have a windows key sticker on your laptop), then download an OEM Toshiba version. Use this LINK for more information.
When you have the Windows CD, you just need to repartition the disk and reinstall windows.

How to reformat the computer?

To reformat the windows vista. There are two options to approach the reformat:
  • Option #1: Boot from the Windows Vista DVD. This is more complicated to do, but it destroys all data and partitions.
  • Option #2: Re-install Vista without leaving the desktop. This preserves the previous installation in a folder called Windows.old. Not all info is wiped, however, and you can't destroy your partitions.
First, restart your system. When the computer starts to boot, look for an option before you get to the Windows screen that reads: “Setup” “CMOS,” or “Bios”. This varies between manufacturers. For example, on the boot screen, it says:
“F2 =Setup”.
The option will flash by quickly so be ready for it and react quickly. You may need to reboot a few times to catch it.
Once in the BIOS, look for a setting that says "Boot" or "Boot Sequence". You might have to dig through the menus with your keyboard’s arrow keys to locate the setting. In the listed as Boot Sequence. And to navigate to Startup, then Boot, and then Boot Priority Setting.
When you find the setting, change your DVD drive so that it occupies the top of the list. The hard drive that contains Windows Vista should be listed as second in the boot list.
And put the Windows Vista installation disc in the designated drive. Now, select the Save Changes and Exit option in the BIOS. The computer will restart and will attempt to read the optical drive you just assigned as the first bootable drive.
The system will use the Windows Vista disc to boot and the reformat and reinstall process will start. But You will need to reinstall any programs that are not bundled with Windows Vista and reinstate your preferences and personal files after reformatting the computer and reinstalling Vista.
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition upgrade Click here. This downloadable version of Windows Vista is an upgrade only. Users can upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium from Windows XP Home or Windows Media Center edition.

All the Best!

Cannot remove XP

You will need to get a recovery disc for your laptop from Acer. Call their support or visit their website to find out how to request one. Aside from that your only other option is to buy a copy of XP or any other any operating system with a cd key and reinstall from that disc.
