Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

My canon mp970 says that it cannot recognize the PGBK ink, but there is still ink in the ink tank.

    I have the the same problem! Canon MP970 Pixma is junk when this happens, no scan/copy/B&W prints, Just a "Cannot recognize cartidge" message. I replaced two cartridges in the Canon Pixma MP970 already and a third just had the same problem. All three were different colors! These were brand new cartridges. I printed no more than a total of 10 Photos and 30 text prints from it. I'm happy I'm not the only one experiencing this problem with the MP970.

    I have a similar problem with my Canon MP970, it's constantly the Cyan cartridge that the printer cannot recognize.  
    Any permanent solution, or should I just return that to the store?

    i have the same problem. but with the yellow ink.  I am surprised that it will not even print a B&W copy.

    This thing is just a piece of ****!!! I've had Canon Pixma MP970 for a couple of months. A good side to the printer is that when it's working, it's working fine. Fast performance, flawless prints, high-quality scans. But see what happens when there's a LITTLE problem. When the Y (yellow) cartridge was up, it displayed a notice and WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING until the cartridge was replaced. NOT A SINGLE B-W COPY, NOT EVEN SCAN. Yesterday I had to buy a complete new set of cartridges (basic colours). Of course I am only buying the plain ones without chip - they're supposed to work as well as the 3x more expensive "official" ones. When I replaced them the printer said "CYAN cartridge was at wrong position" or something like that. What the heck??? It was right there - just brought it from the store (and replaced the chip)!! I never encountered this before. I've tried swapping the chips to see if I hadn't put a wrong one. I've tried putting back the empty one. Now it wouldn't recognize it. AARGH!!! Actually, I don't even need this cyan ink. I can do without colour prints until I have enough time to deal with the problem. I put it there just to get the darn thing to PRINT!!! That's what I have it for. We used to have another Canon printer years ago. Similar experiences. Seems that CANON is not able to produce a single RELIABLE ink printer.

Canon MX850. Print blank after ink changes. The black ink, PGBK-5, ran out so I replaced it with a cheap generic ink tank. But it didn't work, nothing print, not even color copy. I thought the ink is bad...

That is a common problem on all Canon printers, the purge assembly on the right where the printhead parks, has a pump inside and hoses that go to the filters and ink absorbers. When that unit goes out you need a replacement. A job best done in a shop. When the printhead is not cleaned and primed properly you get blank pages no matter how full the inks are.

there is another answere the mp970 can go thew acleaning cycle but if it clicks and the paper can smere ink real easly it will probly have to be replaced.

Error: U150 the following ink tank cannot be recognized

Only thing you can do with the U150 error is replace the tank.
