Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

How can I ask users for a username before providing free wifi?

I have a restaurant where w e provide free wifi to our customers. I need to be able to have them enter a username / pwd (which my front desk staff will supply) before they get access to.
Is there a free software, or a open source code, or a feature in the wifi routers?

Thanks

The "standard" software in any Linksys router can be configured to broadcast an SSID of your choice, e.g., "Bob's Fine Dining" could be the name of your network, and to demand a password of your choice, before connecting.

If you want a "captive portal" solution, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captive_por...

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Free username and password TWC wifi

How do I log in?
Initial access to TWC WiFi requires the user provide log in credentials that identify the user as a current, qualified TWC Residential or Business Class customer. Credentials can either be a TWC ID and Password or Time Warner Cable email and password.
  1. First, make sure you are within range of a TWC WiFi Hotspot and that the WiFi feature on your mobile device is turned on.
  2. Select TWCWiFi from available wireless networks.
  3. Open your browser. The TWC WiFi Connection page will appear.
  4. If you're a Standard Internet customer or above, enter your credentials. You can either use your TWC ID or your Time Warner Cable email and password.
  5. If you're not a Standard Internet customer or above, request a 30-minute free trial or purchase a TWC Access Pass for as little as $2.95/hour.
  6. Accept the Terms of Use, click Submit and connect.

Why do need to contact my network admin, or service provider. Doesn't make it very mobile?

If I understood correct, the computer is asking you to connect to the internet through a service provider. What this means is that you are not identified as having a real access to the internet.

You actually have three ways of connecting to the internet, when connecting from a laptop:
  1. with a wire, and then connecting it to a source of internet (like a modem)
  2. wireless - which means that you must have a wireless internet provider (WiFi). For example, a lot of the coffee shops have a WiFi access, which means that you can ask for a username and a password when you enter a coffee shop, and then may connect to the internet.
  3. a cellular card, which is provided usually by a cellular provider services. You can purchase it for a few bucks each month, and then you should be connected to the internet anywhere you want to (with a WiFi or without it)
A laptop is pretty mobile, but it depends where...

I am in a wifi network, its asking me for password where do i get this and how do i find it

The network administrator should provide the password. If you are in a hotel, you will probably have to pay for the access, but if you are in a restaurant or coffee shopor maybe a library, any employee should be able to give it to you, if free access is a service they provide. If it's a neighbor, you may need a bribe of some kind, cookies usually work well.

How do i connect to mcdonolds free wifi? what do i need?

To access the Wi-Fi services in a restaurant, you need a Wi-Fi enabled device, such as a laptop or PDA. If you are unsure whether your laptop or PDA is Wi-Fi enabled, click here to determine what hardware is required.

Our local service providers provide high-quality Wi-Fi service through several convenient connection options: on-line credit card payment, subscriptions, prepaid cards, or (sometimes) promotional coupons. If you have questions or need technical help, the Wi-Fi provider's customer support number should be handy in the restaurant.

Please note that currently there are no roaming capabilities between different countries, neither for customers nor McDonald's employees. You will have to connect separately with the respective Wi-Fi service provider.

Enjoy surfing and working in your local McDonald's!
