Question about Carrier 38CKC036 Air Conditioner

Open Question

Have a carrier 38cks that I hear running but the fan does not run. I opened it up and saw the wires ran into what looked like a condenser or something like that. Should I disconnect the fan or remove the condenser also? thanks

SOURCE: Central air conditioner will not turn on at all.

I understand this to be a heat pump. Check your thermostat settings, and the filters. And make sure a breaker isn't tripped.

SOURCE: AC fan stopped

Sounds just like a seized bearing on the fan motor. They can be repaired but it's usually less to purchase a new motor. Now all you have to do is figure out how to get the motor out. To get you started, you need to partially disassemble the top portion of the condenser cabinet. This will give you access to the fan motor assembly. Which model do you have? That information will be on the nameplate which is on the side where the electrical enters the cabinet. That reminds me, always pull disconnect and trip breaker before starting.

When the heater is on, should the fan outside on top of the unit also be working along with the blower from the heater ? When the heater is off, cold air is comming from the vent's, can I cover the

No. This is strictly a gas package unit, not a heat pump. the condenser fan motor should NOT run when their is a call for heat from the thermostat. The condenser fan only runs with the compressor on a call for cooling. Hopefully the compressor is not running @ the same time, but if it is, it would make sense that the contactor for the compressor & condenser fan motor is stuck closed OR the low voltage cooling wires are shorted straight to a 24Volt control wire.

Condenser fan on heat pump does not turn off

If it is just the condenser fan that means you have a fan relay that has welded shut. Turn power off to your unit and trace the wires from your condenser fan back into the control panel at the unit. You'll have 3 wires going to it. 2 go to the run capacitor and one goes to the fan relay. The one that goes to the fan relay is the part that needs to be replaced. If you have no fan relay and it goes to the main contractor, half of your main contractor is welded shut and will need to be replaced.

Carrier model 38cks air conditioner compressor fan

sounds like you need to replace the condenser fan motor. It has a thermal overload inside the compressor and will shut it off before it harms the compressor. The only way to get it to reset is cool down the compressor with a water hose.

Condenser fan replaced one year ago, fan not turning but can hear motor

the answer to your problem is most likely the motor start capacitor. A AC motor can run in both directions. The start capacitor is used to cause the current to lag behined the voltage which determines the direction the motor will turn. Its posible the start and run capacitors are in one can. so changing one will change the other. However look for a wiring diagram. Do not asume that both capacitors are wired in properly. They may be fighting one another causeing premature failure.

Ac unit clicks outside but nothing engages fan or compressor on unit furnace still runs for heat setting and fan still blows but ac will not engage just hear a clicking was running for three days this...

Have you check the outside breaker? If its ok then you got a problem in your electrical system inside the unit probably the contactor is not engaging this is where the 24 volts from the thermostat calls for the 240 volts to run the condenser fan and compressor. Be careful checking this out because of the high voltage.

38cks is blowing air but it's not cooling

First thing, are the filters clean? If so then you have lost some gas from the system and need to find and repair the leak, and put in correct gas charge.

My fan on the unit (38CKS UNIT) is not turning?

Problems with the fan are one of several things to consider.
1. Is their power to the fan motor.
2. Does the capacitor for the fan hold a charge and/or discharge (There are metering devices that can identify the condition).
3. Are the fuses blown (If Applicable)
4. Is the breaker to the condenser tripped.
5. Are the windings on the motor closed or open.
6. Are the winding (when using an Ohm Meter, Check the resistance from ground to one of the lead wires, making sure power is disconnected and all leads are disconnected from the terminal points. There will be high resistance if there is not a short from the windings to the frame ground.

These are simple checks I make to determine the motors condition. Sometimes a wire does come loose or cut or even burned. I trace the wire from point A to B and also making sure the wire terminal connections are tight.
