Question about Frigidaire FAH106N1 Wall/Window Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a frigidaire window ac. THe compressor doesn't shut off. I have to unplug it for the compressor to stop. What could be the problem? Someone told me it could be the thermistor.

the control panel is electronic. As i looked at the parts diagram there is a (Sensor, ambient temp, thermistor) part and a (Sensor, evaporator temp thermistor) but no thermostat listed.

If it cools properly, it is not the thermistor. It most likely is the thermostat. Turn the knob to the warmest temperature and see if it shuts off. Still no? Then you can open up the control box. (DANGER--line voltage--can shock you) . Unplug the unit, open up the control box, take one of the wires(either one) off of the thermostat, tape it securely and isolated. If the compressor does not run now, then the thermostat is bad.

It would be the evaporator thermister. Somehow it is sensing the air from the room as it enters the evaporator coil

Frigidaire window unit fra18emu2 compressor will not turn off when power is shut off. Must unplug. Why?

Either the compressor relay has become stuck (most likely) or there is a wiring fault internally where power is being shunted directly to the compressor (also possible). Check the condition of the wiring around the compressor start capacitor and, if you see melted wires, there's your culprit. (NOTE: Melted wires all need to be replaced to eliminate possible fire hazard.)

Brand-new window unit emits musty smell when compressor shuts off

It SHOULD NOT ... (smell in... even in WEST TEXAS).

BRAND NEW... Rush on down and get a good
NEW one.

I would suspect the condensate drip pan is plugged...

Common for AC units ..

But NEVER in "brand new"...

Get that (previously owned (my opinion)) UNIT
back from where you bought it ... Trade it in for a CLOSED BOX... and make your sales CLOWN write up why you are returning it.

Mold can be quite dangerous!!

I turn on ac, and your suppose to wait 3 mins. for compressor to kick on, it does then just shuts rite back off and then makes a humming noise

It sounds like a broken relay. The relay should be attached to the compressor. Unplug the ac, remove the relay and shake it, if it rattles it needs to be replaced

Haier ESA 3185 AC won't cool; makes escalating loud vibrating noise near front panel/ filter

Have someone check the run capacitor of this unit. If the run capacitor is bad over shorted it can cause the unit to run and short cycle on a current overdraw. This makes for an electrical imbalance in the compressor motor. Next step is the compressor is faulty.
