2410 Malunction At printer start up the device that runs back/forth to copy/scan an image goes across and returns and gets stuck and makes very loud grinding type noise. This was corrected after unplugging the printer power and USB for several minutes and restarting a few times. Unplugging and restarting no longer works! Device continues to appear stuck and loud grinding noise continues, also the printer sceen only shows the hourglass. What do I do, printer is now out of warranty?

Same issue here, the hourglass is shown at startup and the scanner-arm tries to move backwards and makes an shrieking sound, then stops after a couple of minutes. The hourglass remains on the display and nothing else happens. None of the the functions (print/scan/copy) work.

Tried to plug/unplug power and USB without succes

    • My 2410 has a stuttering problem. I noticed this happening when The cord would be accidentally unplugged without doing the "safely remove hardware" on my PC. It acts as though its going to start up fine then suddenly begins to make the same repetitive sound for about a minute or two. It would eventually work after turning it off and then back on - but sometimes it would take a few times of playing the "turn on and off game." But the last sudden disconnect (from a power outage) has now completely paralyzed my poor kid. He's stuck stuttering and won't print. What can I do?

Same thing happens to mine, it starts up okay, then when the hourgalss thats suppose to show up, when the scanner light goes all the way to the left and starts to go back, towards the end it makes this weird grinding noise, it stops after a minute or so, then it still shows the hourglass and nothing else responds, Print, copy, fax, nothing... what do i do?

Thanks Aspy1...I did your paper wheel roll from the back and it fixed the problem instantly. After messing w/ my printer for 30 mins trying to fix it via shut downs & restarts (and I'll admit some hitting), I should have saved time and come here in the first place. Cheers.

This problem always hits after a power interruption. On another site I read the solution is to open the back and roll or move the paper wheels back and forth a few times. This worked for me.

My printer wont print. I have recently upgraded to windows 7. have downloaded the new driver. but it wont print. i have tried a full reset, partial reset, taking out ink and restarting, putting ink back...

You need to check the hardware functionality of printer first. Make a copy from printer and check if it prints fine. If hardware is okay. You can try following steps on computer.

1- On computer keyboard press Windows(flag) button and R at the same time
2- This will open a small Run window
3- Type devmgmt.msc in Run window and click OK
4- This will open Device Manager window.
5- Right click on psc 2410(2400) entry under "universal serial bus controller" and 'imaging device' and click delete/uninstall/remove. Printer's entry should disappear from there.
6- Disconnect usb cable from printer and computer
7- Wait for 50 seconds.
8- Connect the usb cable to printer and computer.
9- This should install the drivers automatically.

Loud clicking noise when turn on printer

I would check wherever possible for foreign objects in the printer. Failing that, a partial reset is available for your PSC 2410:

A partial reset can be done by:

1) Unplugging the power cord (you are already there!)
2) Press and hold the (#) key and (3) key while plugging the unit back in

Printer works, cannot scan (same issue as gemrise)

Yes, just like it says, you need a scanning software running on your computer, there are no options until you have the scanning software running and it knows where to send the image and how to save it.

My scanner :makes a loud noise when trying to scan or copy

Unless you forgot and tried to use it locked…then unlocked it after, it seems unlikely that changing the ink could directly affect anything related to the scanner. So especially if it still scans and now just makes more noise then before, we can reasonably say it isn’t a faulty locking mechanism and that the gears are probably not stripped, which would either stop it or not. So you’re looking at either something simple like the gear assembly being dry, shifted slightly, etc. or the safety by the lock that makes noise to tell you the device is locked is stuck somehow. The one can be tested by removing the little plastic safety that makes the noise when the scanner is turned on and locked; the other you might be able to test with some WD40 and see if it runs quieter.

HP 2410 prints & copies fine but won't scan.

Well if you are able to copy from your printer,it suggests that the hardware is perfectly fine. Its just an issue with the software.May be you are using an old software that is not compatible with the new operating system of your computer. If this is not the problem then try uninstalling and then reinstalling the software. And mind that when to uninstall the software do it completely from the registry, program files as well as add/remove programs. If you want any further support, an online technician from techbuddies can help you for free. For this log on to http://tinyurl.com/m7ghqz

Scanner doesn't work

If you've tried the printer on different PCs and still didn't work looks like there is something wrong with the scanner internally. When you start the scanner fresh, the scanning light has to move up and down the glass if it doesn't may be something is stuck on the mechanism open it and check for lose cables or dirt. Other option will be that If you bought it on the last 11 months try send it for "Manufacturer's Warranty Repair" you can call HP costumer service and ask them where you can send your unit for service, make sure you use a traceable method and keep records. Or take it to the nearest dealer and have them look at it.
